Tax Fugitive Barricaded in House: 'Show Us the Law, and We'll Pay'

Sunday, January 21, 2007

Jan. 17: Ed Brown stands barricaded in the doorway of his home, saying
he is prepared for an armed standoff in Plainfield, N.H.

The New Hampshire man who is holed up with armed supporters in his
fortress-like house after being convicted of tax evasion says he just
wants everyone to pay attention and obey the law.

"I want people to realize that there is no such thing as an obligation
to pay income tax," said Edward Brown. "It has nothing to do with the
Constitution."

A jury ruled Thursday that Brown and his wife, Elaine, plotted to hide
their income and avoid taxes on Elaine Brown's income of $1.9 million
between 1996 and 2003. Over 10 years, they also used $215,890 of postal
money orders broken into increments just below the reporting threshold
to pay for their hilltop compound and for Elaine Brown's dental
offices.

After the pair were convicted Thursday on 17 felony counts, Brown and a
group of supporters sequestered themselves in his home in Plainfield,
N.H.

They say there is no law stating that they must pay tax on Elaine
Brown's income. "We told them, 'Show us the law and we'll pay
immediately,'" Edward Brown said in an interview Friday.

So tell us which state complained at the time that it was listed as
ratifying it when it had not? What was the form of the complaint?

Yes indeed. The govt just announced that it had been ratified even
though it hadn't been. Just a complete bald-faced lie like the ones
we've been given recently. That Iraq had nuclear weapons and that arab
terrorists caused Building 7 to collapse on sept 11 by some sort of
mystery vibration. HAHAHA. Our government has a history of telling the
most blatant lies and only a fool takes their word on anything.

It was never ratified? Then what's it doing in the Constitution?
Somebody better tell the Constitution people there's been a big
mistake. They're going to have to repeal the Tax Code and give back all
the tax money that's been collected since the 1930s. Oh my God, this is
terrible!

A lot of legal experts argue that income tax was always legal. The
amendment (which was sold with the idea that most states did not have
anybody rich enough to pay income tax), just made it more palatable.

HAHAHA. You don't even understand the issue, you nitwit. The 16th
amerndment was never ratified. That's what the tax protesters are
saying. Get your butt outa your head.

Even though this is from Wikipedia, I'm pretty certain it is accurate.

So which Law(s) did they pass that allows the collection of said taxes?

Now that may be the dumbest thing I've read in a long time. "It grants
powers to pass laws," meaning what? That Congress can pass laws to
comport with the Constitution or not pass them as it sees fit? The
Constitution is just sort of a non-binding set of guidelines, is that
it?

What part about "The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on
incomes" don't you understand?

Note the total lack of details about what is income, deductions, or tax
rates in the Sixteenth Amendment.

By now I imagine someone has shown him this:

U.S. Constitution - Amendment 16
The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from
whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several
States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

Dumbass. Who else but Fox News would bother with a moron like that?

The Sixteen Amendment to the US Constitution isn't the law. It grants powers
to pass laws, but it itself isn't the law.
