Will you be playing @ Craig Ranch?

I'm seriously considering applying for a shall's job there just so I
can play. I don't have any data that says this is a good idea, but it
sure caught my fancy when I saw the 'can you break XX' show on TGC.

Yes, just off 121 and 75 (between 75 and Custer). Very nice, plenty
long, looks fun!

Quite a bitter streak you have going.

BTW -- Cincy doesn't freeze over and we rarely get snow for long
periods of time. I can play whenever I want in the winter.

So, to quote a famous Canadian, -- suck it.

As a native Cincinnatian I know this to be false. While it isn't quite the
great white north there are times that you cannot play golf, and many more
times that you could but how fun is golfing in freezing temps on a dead golf
course?
I'll stay here in FL:-)

We are in the middle of what the meteorologists call a "severe rainfall
deficiency". Common people call it a drought. It's been going on since
2000. At the end of this winter, river flows are almost nothing and
towns near me are on Stage 4 water restrictions (can't water a garden or
even wash a car).

We've had a record warm September already, three days over 30C (86F) and
it's still two months to summer.

The situation is dire, as bad as the catastrophic wildfire season of
1982-83.

> Are the warm months called summer down there?

Yep, although this year they might be called hell. My golf course is
drying out already, two months earlier than normal.

All of you who waste energy or use it needlessly should think of what
you are doing to this planet.

The south-east, in the State of Victoria, about 100km north-west of
Melbourne. I'm actually in one of the higher rainfall areas of the state.

River flows for the last five years are about 20% of what they were in
good years. There's little run-off. The reservoir system near me, which
services the city of Bendigo (pop 80,000) and some other towns, is at
20% capacity. Lake Eppalock, where Bendigo normally gets 35% of its
water, is 3.1%. Our state government is looking at plans to truck water
by road into small rural towns in the drier north-west of the state as
town reservoirs run dry.

Some golf courses, even some close to me, look like running out of water
this summer. My own course's water supply is OK, but we don't water
fairways.

Oh my. What's the average annual rainfall for that region,
historically? 120 cm or more? My impression is that normally
Victoria gets pretty decent rain.

Average right where I live is around 950mm (38"). This year we've had
460mm (18") and don't expect more than 100mm or so for the rest of the year.

Where I live is the reservoir catchment! So very little is flowing into
storages. To top it off, the major fruit production area in the north
had a devastating frost two weeks ago. That seems to come with the
territory of a drought year.

Any golf course that uses recycled water will be lucky, because the ones
that irrigate direct from town storages will be in big trouble. Water
recycling is going to be a necessity in the future.

Come on. Being dead just because I'm playing a nice private course in

Well, as I said, it didn't cost me anything. Two, I hadn't played
this course and wanted the chance to play it. Three, I haven't been
invited to play any of the courses I mentioned. Four, it didn't cost
me anything. :-)

Nothing's free. Someone is paying for it. I'm not playing our TPC course
today because it is closed to replace the greens.
