I was surprised when I watched some of the coverage of her last week.
She is certainly not as thin as she was -- she's nowhere near chubby,
but definitely has a few more pounds on her frame than she did last
summer. More than that, her body (think hormones) are very different
at 17 than they were at 14. If I could advise her, I'd tell her to
stick to the LPGA for a couple of years (and first of all, apply to
become a member), get her swing back to where it's easy and
comfortable, adjust her game to her body as she finishes developing,
then give the PGA another go.

also, women tennis players get to peak play pretty early too. now they
seem to be able to maintain it, but they don't get better for another
10 years like guys.
and when michelle was amazing at age 13/14, was she physically mature?
because those changes can really screw with your game too co-ordination
wise.
although i think it's bad golf guidance frankly. i think it's in the
head.

That's my opinion too: screwing around with her head. Thinking "the guru"
knows all and relinquishing her own innate instincts in favor of "the right
way..."
If she were mine I'd BARRICADE her from any intrusion in her own personally
sensed developmental program. She has the talent NOT to need a coach or
head screwer upper.

Her head is totally screwed up. It isn't Leadbetter. It is her parents who
must like the payday. She hurt her wrist three months ago and hasn't stepped
away from golf long enough to allow it to heal.
Would you let your kid keep doing something that continued to aggravate an
injury?

I think the mistake most people made was to assume that she would
continue to improve at a steady rate. Who knows? Maybe she'll be like
those gymnasts who peak at 16? I actually think she is too tall, it
seems to me that height can be a disadvantage in golf.

not sure if her actual game is worse or not.. her pga performances are
getting worse and worse.
on one hand, apparently her swing has gone south. not fluid like when
she was younger. apparently looks quite mechanical.
on other hand, i think it's predictable that wie and hypthetically
annika's performance on PGA tour would get worse and worse... first
time, they are all jacked up. eventually, it just gets demoralizing.
