Has anyone had a chance to compare both these gps systems? If so what are
your recommendations.

I can't compare iGolf and SkyCaddie as I have only used iGolf. See my
updated review at

http://tinyurl.com/2wspzv

But basically the SkyCaddie has a good deal more "pre-mapped functions" (on
some courses it might have many of the hazards and bunkers, etc) than iGolf
which only premaps Front/Center/Back of the green. SkyCaddie (some models)
also has some graphics interface with pictures/etc - for example the shape
of the greens and the ability to 'point to' a location that is roughly the
pin location. Stuff like that. iGolf is just names and numbers (and
satellite position images).

iGolf however has much better support for user mapped points, which was my
motivation in the first place. The courses I play have tons of lay-up
distances, carry distances, etc. that are of interest to me and my personal
preference is to do my own mapping anyway (even for the greens).

You can use iGolf forever without paying an annual fee. SkyCaddie is pretty
darn limited without their annual fee. iGolf is also a cheaper purchase.

Initially I was pretty dis-satisfied with my iGolf Caddie. But now that I
know how to use it I am pretty quickly moving to the satisfied column. It
isn't as helpful inside 80 yards as I wish, but I'm carrying it on the
course again and beginning to like it.

They are only as good as the course maps.
