Even I had to laugh at that Tiger outburst on #17. Had I been there
I'd have said, "Zach Johnson just won a new coat."

But you haven't got it yet. There is no "religion" being discussed in
this thread. It is about human psychology and the game of golf.

Any of them. In this case, the one that Tiger chose to blaspheme.

Personally I don't believe God predetermines much within our lives or
that of mankind. I think He's watching the play unfold, knowing
aspects of the beginning, middle (His Son's life), and ending. He
intervenes at times on a real time basis.

Agree, wholeheartedly. Christianity at it's core (unmerited grace) is
about liberty. It's about people realizing they are a child of God.
When it's realized, then the behavior changes freely and naturally.
Whereas, the dry religion you well describe, mandates the behavior
first in the hopes of reward later.

It is depressing.....I used to live/believe that way in my youth.
It's a difficult way to live and think. The net result is
frustration, dishonesty, and self righteousness.

It was a tongue in cheek comment. Probably should have put the old
smiley face on it.

Regardless, my view is that there is one choice, one Lord, but
fortunately salvation is not conditioned on man figuring it out.
Salvation is God making the choice to save us, not the other way
around.

Oxymoron. Nothing that's predetermined can be a choice; nothing that's
a choice can be predetermined.

I *reeeeeeeeeeallly* strive to stay out of religious discussions, as
everyone has a right to his own beliefs as a matter of basic human
respect. But I'll say this. Any belief system that expects humans to
exercise the reason and discriminating behavior of sheep is not for me.
I do not believe that Yeshua Ben Miriam taught such beliefs, either,
but I'll be damned (heh) if you don't seem to be saying here that
humans should shut up, get in line, accept Jesus and be good little
angels. Personally, I find the idea of living in such a belief structure
to be extremely depressing.

Sorry, but bad = being a refugee in Darfur; good = being lucky enough
to be playing golf in your spare time.

Get some perspective. If there is a God, do you really think he's be
concerned about the wind blowing a little ball, or the fact that his
people always seem to be killing each other somewhere in His creation,
and they never learn.

This years Masters and particularily the last day of it was about the
best it's been in several years. There were 8 or 10 people still with
a chance to win until very late in the day and a couple people (other
than ZJ) that still had a shot at it into 16, 17, 18. About the only
thing that could have made it better would have been a a 3 way playoff
decided on about the 4th hole just as dark was settling in.. :)

Generally, the first one to bring up gayness is the one who likes

Really? Wow, it seemed like just last year when he won two majors and
dominated the tour. Oh, wait, it was!

I wouldn't say time has caught up with him quite yet, either in the
physical way or in the "He's human" way. He's played as well over the
last nine months as he has any time except during his Tiger Slam.

It is the beauty of a tought track for a PGA tour event.

The best thing that can happen is for the winner to shoot 1 over par for the
week and the bottom of the field flirt with bogey golf so the rest of us can
relate.

It's good for golf.

It's also fun to watch the best in the game struggle just like the rest of
us.

I don't know about *that*. Somebody like Bret who can really roll
the rock could probably keep it in the 90s. But I wonder if I could
break 100 at ANGC from the tips with the temperature at 72*F and
the wind lying completely down. I doubt it.

Bradley Dredge shot the highest score at Augusta today, 83. You can
do that? Doubtful. You might be able to match the 7 that Fuzzy made
on the par 4 11th though. :-)

What happened is the first step in what also happened to great athletes like
Michael Jordon, Wayne Gretzky, Joe Montana, Rod Laver....

They're not just going against their fellow athletes... they're also going
up against Father Time.

Tiger doesn't have to like it... but that doesn't mean it's not happening.

But what may actually happen is that Tiger becomes even more popular...
since he comes across as human, rather than as a machine. Stars like Jack
Nicklaus and Jimmy Connors became much more popular as they aged and were
still able to win vs. when they were young and won all the time.

Might work except I think Johnson is older than Tiger.

Not even Zach Johnson thought Zach Johnson was going to win The Masters
today.

I mean, did you see how that blue shirt he was wearing clashed with his
fancy new green jacket?

Someone needs to explain color schemes to that boy.

I wonder what kind of odds Vegas is giving for a Grand Slam this year
compared to the odds they were giving the last few years when the Masters
winner was Mickelson or Woods.

Frankly, once it appeared Tiger wasn't going to be very Tiger-like today, I
was rooting for Retief. He's a fine player, and I could totally see him
winning The Masters.

I wonder what that Iowa boy will be serving at next year's Champion's
Dinner. Chicken Pot Pies and corn-on-the-cob with a class of "pop?"

Some players would look great in green and agree Retief would be one of them
and I would have liked to see him win.

I didn't notice that he had knockers.

I think you're thinking of Mel Phickelson.

Corn-on-the-cob might be an option, but as a former midwesterner, chicken
pot pies are not a staple. Maybe 'loose meats' or breaded pork tenderloin
sandwiches. I never saw a chicken pot pie until I moved to California.

Having grown up a midwesterner (KC), pot pies were always fairly familiar to
my family.

Especially after my mom died and the only cook left was my dad. :-)

Maybe in KC but Iowa is hog country.

I thought he played the best, actually. He burned so many edges and
got zero good bounces. How many players would have killed yesterday
to get the ball to stay on the shelf at #16? I still can't figure out
how it stopped there.

Do Iowans import Runzas from Nebraska?

Well he got a good break on 18 when a poor second shot stayed short of
that bunker. I guess Jesus kept him out of it.

I was referring to Goosen.

Sorry, my mistake. I also thought Goosen was going to win; he was
playing brilliantly.

Although I'm not so sure that bunker shot would have been much more
difficult. Would have depended on the stance. If it had just trickled in
and left him with a stance outside the bunker, it might have been awkward.
But even still, that wouldn't have been a terribly difficult bunker shot.
Just get it out, and it would feed down to the hole.
