First of all, thanks very much to all who responded to my recent request for Orlando course suggestions, which will help greatly in planning my upcoming trip in ch. Due to the availability of a free place to stay, I'll be extending my trip for a few days in the Sarasota/Bradenton area. So I'd like to call on you all again for some course suggestions in that area (within a 30-45 minute drive or so). Again, I'm priily interested in finding a couple of good value courses and maybe one or two more upscale types. Thanks in advance. JimK

I'm a 8 handicap who has played most all of the courses in the area and here are a couple of suggestions: Waterlefe - don't play if you can't carry the tee shot a couple hundred yards otherwise a well-conditioned track that offers a good challenge. Legacy - tough 1st 5 holes around. In good shape right now Venetian - a little south of Sarasota but worth the drive Hope this helps....If price is a concern the 2 best deals in area are: Bobby Jones British - in good shape right now (Donald Ross track) Lake Venetian - in good shape right now Good luck!!!! You can get maps, prices, t times etc. One trick I learned back when I'd sometimes go to Hilton Head is to first go to the nearest golf superstore (Edwin Watts, Golfsmith, Nevada Bob's) and ask the guys who work there a few questions. They can usually tell you which courses are in the best shape at that time or who might be running some good deals. Heck, you might even get invited to play with them.

Most of the upscale courses in the Sarasota area are private. One upscale public course is The Legacy Golf Club at Lakewood Ranch, 8255 Legacy Boulevard, Bradenton, FL 34202. While actually in Manatee County, it is within a few hundred feet of Sarasota County. Legacy is a public golf course not to be confused with the Lakewood Ranch Golf Club also on Legacy Boulevard which is very private.
