We have a few greenside bunkers with little to no sand in them. Ruined a good scorecard today. Particularly when the pin is tight I find them impossible to play, anyone have a technique that works? Rog

Address the ball square (not that big open-faced address like you would for soft sand), and make an arm swing. Compact and crisp, and as always accelerate through the ball. You're aiming to take just a nice tidy swipe of sand out from under the ball. This assumes the sand is wet or compacted, but able to be divoted. If it's dried mud or something similarly nasty, you might consider taking an unplayable lie or chipping. Dave

It was fine-grained to start with, but now much heavier, and coarse. I went from using a sand wedge with bounce...to a 52 degree. It still takes some getting used to. ___, \o

But I can imagine conditions where that would not be effective. dave

I carry one because I am often faced with very tight lies around our greens. Dave Clary/Corpus Christi, TX http://davidclary.com
