OK, it was just a small, somewhat impromptu event... but nevertheless, it
was a long awaited battle, gently hyped over recent weeks in unrelated
threads. The venue was Cypress Ridge, on California's beautiful central
coast. Hello wine country! Just to make it interesting, the greens were
freshly sanded for the event... an obvious ploy to disrupt Uncle K's
wonderful, yip-free putting.

Well, it almost worked. Even as long&left chipped in on 18 (his 2nd chip-in
of the day), Unc managed to nip him in this somewhat high-scoring,
stroke-for-stroke
donnybrook. And yes, the little guy CAN hit it past the big guy, seemingly
at will. (Sorry Dave, but, you were warned in advance). Scores? Let's
just say there's no serious threat of anyone's handicap dipping, but we
"scored" a good day, for sure.

Observed: Don't bet against big Dave missing anything inside of 6'... if he
hasn't already chipped it in, of course. Don't bet against him being a
great guy and a great host, either. Just like Rude Dog, who isn't rude, or
a dog, long&left isn't really long, or left. Go figure. One other thing:
I hate f-ing environmentally sensitive areas.

Thanks Dave. You're a dandy. If you need a rematch real soon, I'll be
hanging around at the intersection of Arizona, California, and Mexico, until
late Oct. The fairways ought to be like faded AstroTurf over asphalt,
about now. An excellent opportunity to redeem the "long" part----------- As
for the "left" part, if you must, bring a copy of your home-owner's policy
to cover the glass breakage, if not a telescoping ball-retriever for fishing
balls out of the pools.

Thanks for the heads up, Jim. I'll keep that in mind, should I ever end up
next to him.... in the middle.

yeah, it was an interesting day on the greens. Freshly sanded poa and
foggy and drizzly weather to start. You woulda thought that they'd be a
bit slow. Blew my first putt on #1 by 12'. I never did figure out the
new "sand speed" and so decided to just start chipping them in :) Hey!
and there's two ways to play golf, with Power, or with Finesse. I just
happen to be a finesse player ;-P

it was great to meet you Ken (and Diane) although our dinner at Ginas
put my weight loss routine back a week. Look forward to playing with you
again soon, even if I do have to hit first on every second shot :)

Oddly, the greens weren't really that slow. However, being a die-putter,
that little sand stripe on the ball sure jerked it out of the hole, at the
last second... a few times. Have you ever considered changing your moniker
to AdequatelyLong&Finesseful? Never mind - too wordy.

Ah yes, it's a tortoise/hare thing. As you know, it's not how............
