Here's a little rollover I made showing what my old stomping ground looks like today. If you roll your mouse over the pic you'll see what it looked like 60 years ago. http://members.aol.com/annika1980/mb1946.html

Your rollover technique is like your politics. Needs some work. The photog is very good but the technique and analysis are lacking (as in your politics) "annika1980" <annika1980@aol.com > wrote in message news:1165722972.577393.222870@79g2000cws.googlegroups.com... > Here's a little rollover I made showing what my old stomping ground > looks like today. > If you roll your mouse over the pic you'll see what it looked like 60 > years ago. > > http://members.aol.com/annika1980/mb1946.html >

The golf course in the modern photo is the big brown patch right in the middle just this side of the sewage plant (the big silver thingy). The parking lot and clubhouse of the course can be seen next to the road at the right of the pic. Of course, the golf course didn't yet exist in 1946. It was built in 1965, shortly after the mental hospital seen at the bottom of the pic. I showed my ex-boss this pic and he told me that when the course was built in 1965 you could stand on the 14th tee (next to the river) and look straight over and see the mental hospital. Nowadays, it's all woods and all you can see are trees and the mountain when you look back toward where I took the pic. http://www.pbase.com/annika1980/image/6702013 Some of the trees seen in the 1946 pic still exist and are quite huge. In fact, there is one on the 17th hole that was probably there when the Indians inhabited these parts. The land where the golf course now sits used to be a farm owned by the family of a friend of mine. He told me that they were all the time digging up arrowheads and stuff.

Nice work on finding the exact spot and overlaying it onto the old picture. It's neat to see how the bend of the river in the middle/top left has changed over the years. -- jvdp http://www.rsgcincinnati.com

I'm not sure how it's done, but the effect is wonderful! Crazy what time will do. I look at pictures from the 40's in the Dallas area and I can't believe it's the same place that I know today. Hell, I drive by places in the Dallas area that couldn't possibly be the same physical location that I remember from my misspent youth. Everything is so different! One major difference from your pictures: there's a lot more trees at PM now than in days gone by. Quite the opposite in these parts. Too bad. Have ya thought about photoshopping the colors to match in the two photos (e.g. the river water, the sky, the forefront foliage on the left bank, etc.)? That would make an already startling effect even more dramatic. Scott
