Came up through the ranks, played the amateur tournaments and didn't make excuses for missing them, came onto the LPGA tour and played without being a circus act on the men's tour, and then won, her first AND a major. All this and she didn't even stumble over her own feet while jogging or didn't use 'like' and 'awesome' ad nauseum. Way to go Morgan.

No one can know, but it doesn't change the possibility that some
others will
get the message that skipping your education is acceptable to try a
pro
career. Look at college basketball players who leave early and bust.
Pressel
may succeed, but most others likely will not if they try the same
direction.

Wait a minute. You used to argue that Michelle was more successful in
golf than anybody else at her age. I think that you were one of the
breathless fans who proclaimed her "The Greatest 16 Year Old Player Of
Either Sex In History". People replied with examples of other 16-year
olds who had done impressive things. You used to talk about how close
she was coming to winning. People pointed out that others her age had
come close, too. You replied that she came close more often than anybody
else, or something like that.

In other words, your arguments were all about her achievements in the
game of golf. Now that another young player has accomplished something
in the game that Michelle has only dreamed of, you're completely changing
your argument. Now, it no longer matters how she plays or whether she
ever wins. The only thing that matters is that she got a huge
endorsement contract from Nike and is set for life, and for that reason
alone, "she did it right."

That isn't what you were saying a year or two ago, though. Back when you
thought a win for Michelle was just aroung the corner you were saying,
"Just wait and see." Well, we waited and now we've seen. The folks who
were saying that Morgan was doing it right have a pretty strong piece of
evidence in their favor, now.

Oh, and Morgan is doing okay financially, I'm pretty sure. She's not in
Michelle's league in terms of endorsement contracts, but she's doing
well. Would she trade her title and endorsements for Michelle's
endorsements? Not on your life. Would Michelle trade her multi-million
dollar endorsements to be in Morgan's place with much smaller
endorsements but with a major title? You bet your ass she would. In a
heartbeat.

You did. Here's what you said:

"She [Morgan Pressel] chose to ask the LPGA to waive the age limit and
joined at age 17. Others have chosen to get more seasoning in the Futures
tour and have been very successful transitioning to the LPGA."

That sounds like you had no idea that Pressel actually went to Q-School
and won her card there. It sounds like you thought Pressel just wrote
asked them if they would please let her join the LPGA and they said yes.
It sounds like you didn't even know that players actually have to earn
their way into the LPGA tour.

It sounds like you were under the impression that players simply choose
to play on the LPGA tour whenever they feel like it, but some players
choose to get a little better first by playing on the Futures tour.

> If you read my post,
> I simply said that there are many routes to becoming a top-notch LPGA

Again, you were wrong when you claimed that some players have "CHOSEN to
get more seasoning in the Futures tour." No one chooses to play on the
Futures or Nationwide tour. They only play there if they can't qualify
for the big show.

> In short, please don't denigrate the Futures tour. You are doing a lot

You're misreading what he said. No one is denigrating the Futures tour,
or the Nationwide tour, for that matter. By now, everyone knows that
some of the top players on both major tours came up through the minor
league tours.

He was simply responding to your own absurd claim that some players
"choose" to get more seasoning on the Futures tour before moving on to
the LPGA. You seemed to be trying to construct some sort of rebuttal to
someone's claim that Morgan came up the "right" way, but in doing so you
came up with an example that was obviously false. Somebody called you on
it, you bucked up and denied saying it (either you forgot you said it or
you believed that no one would go back and check), and here we are.

Your only hope of saving face is by either committing hari-kari, or by
composing a one-word reply that says "Oops", and then dropping out of the
thread and changing your name, never using Alex Neri on Usenet again.

As usual, your microscopic brain be jumping to conclusions. I'm NOT
complaining there are too many blacks in other sports. I'm just stating
their dominance as a fact and a very unimportant fact, i might add.
Blacks and whites can go out for any sport they want and who cares?.

My objection is with this black writer who definitely is complaining
about black under-representation on the PGA tour. THINK

I wonder about that. Most of Michelle's money is from endorsements,
not
tournament winnings. Doesn't that money come with strings attached,
like "you've got to play golf a lot in public." It's one thing to
play 6-7
tournaments a year when you're 16 and the LPGA won't let you apply
for membership, but another thing when you're 18-19-20 years old.

Aren't Wie's sponsors going to start asking "what have you done for me
lately?" I don't think "I aced my freshman English midterm" is going
to
cut it.

Right now, Morgan has a great answer to that question.

I wouldn't agree. It is about being successful in your chosen career.
Morgan has chosen professional golf as her career, which doesn't require
a college degree. Is she making the right choice? I don't know, nor do
you.

Maybe Michelle is going to college because she is not so sure about her
future in professional golf. Again, neither you nor I know if that is
right or even the right choice for her.

I'd say it is a draw.

Well, that's sort of my point. Both girls are EXTREMELY accomplished
for their age. Both are so young that it is ridiculous to even talk
about their life achievements, let alone to decide that one has blown
it. But here comes Orwell, feeling very smug that Morgan won before
Michelle did. Never mind that Morgan is playing full time, while
Michelle is playing six or seven events a year while going to school
full time; it is geometric proof that he knows more about what's best
for Michelle than she or her parents.

You could be right about Michelle not being sure about a pro career.
She was obviously playing golf for the fun of it a couple of years
ago, but after all the sniping she got last year from people like
Orwell, maybe it's not so fun anymore.

Michelle has plenty of problems facing her now, the least of which is
the sniping. Hell, the circus that surrounds her is not her friend,
more a distraction to her I would think.

But from a practical standpoint, Michelle used to have such a natural
swing, with a very long, mostly accurate drive. Now Today she's not so
accurate, and her length isn't much different than many of today's LPGA
stars. BUT, there is some evidence that her wrists may be an issue,
bigger than she and her entourage let on. Had she been playing this
past weekend, on that course with narrow fairways and a damn tough
rough, those wrists could have been a real problem.

Given that, I suspect that she will fade out of the pros in the near
future. That's will be unfortunate.

Let's not get carried away here. Though it was a great win for her, ONE WIN
does not a career make. And it terms of "doing it right", there is is NO ONE
right way. She chose to ask the LPGA to waive the age limit and joined at
age 17. Others have chosen to get more seasoning in the Futures tour and
have been very successful transitioning to the LPGA. As for your reference
to the "circus act", you can call it anything you want but she is laughing
all the way to the back with Nike money.

Please don't be silly. Nobody chooses the lesser tours like the Futures or
Nationwide. Either you got it and play with the big kids or spend time in
the minor leagues trying to develop more of it.

Pressel only asked for a few months wavier after she had graduated from high
school. She earned a spot on the tour in the fall Q school, graduated from
high school at mid-term, and wasn't turning 18 until May. The LPGA allowed
her to start playing in February rather than waiting until May.

Regarding your comment that "nobody plays the Futures Tour by choice". First
of all, you're belaboring the obvious and so that statement becomes just
"noise". Secondly, when you make that statement who are you rebutting?
Nobody on this thread has claimed that. If you read my post, I simply said
that there are many routes to becoming a top-notch LPGA player and one of
them is through the Futures tour.

In short, please don't denigrate the Futures tour. You are doing a lot of
disservice to players who honed their skill in that tour, and are now very
successful players in the LPGA.

You literal-minded idiot. They "choose" to play in the Futures because
"top-five players from the Duramed FUTURES Tour money list automatically
gain exempt status on the LPGA Tour for the following year". This is one way
of qualifying for the LPGA aside from Q school. Nowhere did I imply that
their goal is to stay in the Futures for the rest of their life. By
definition, the Futures is a DEVELOPMENTAL TOUR FOR THE LPGA. In short, not
everyone can be a Morgan Pressel and win the US Ams, apply to the LPGA and
even get a waiver of the age limit.

So when you claim that no one would want to stay in the Futures. DAH!!!
HELLO!!! Were you trying to be profound? This statement was a non-sequitur
because it belabored the obvious. You may think you're smarter than everyone
else on this board but not all posters are dumb. Your reading skills and
perhaps your ability to read between the lines leaves much to be desired.
You've got a high handicap in these matters, no pun intended.

I never knocked opportunity ah......knocking. Just play on your tour and win instead of being a circus act and continually losing on a tour you can't win on. (gosh, there's that circus act thing popping up again.)

You mean like she's a big whore? What's wrong with you, man? I can't
believe you said that. You take offense at a harmless comment about the
Michelle Wie family circus, but say that Morgan Pressel is a no-bra-

Zoeller, Gary Player, Jim Colbert, and Fluff Cowan. I think you should
be ashamed of yourself, and I'm sending a copy of your remarks to the

Not to detract but sounds like she was out well in front of the
closing groups. But still you have to play all of the holes.
I'm glad to see it.

Seconded.

(And after what happened what happened with Birdie Kim, she was due
for a little faltering by the opposition ...)

You really believe that? Not everyone believes that Wie or anything
about her is a "circus act". That's an opinion, not a statement of
fact. There are negatives about Morgan as well, but I'm certainly not
going to air them here. You obviously meant to slam Wie along with
congratulating Morgan. There is no "statement of facts" intent here.

You're absolutely right. You were clever enough to read between the lines and find that reference to 'circus act' and piece together the true meaning of the da vinci code, hidden among the pyramids and encryptions of the Illuminati. Nice going. Oh, many have 'slammed Wie,' not just me and some of those are sports writers and actual golf professionals. Oh, woe is me, wie.

"Caught?" "Barf" Now those are opinionated responses if I ever heard. See, now you're caught too. I say what I want to say and if you don't like it, you may shove it, killfile it, or disagree. The only barf you might know is when you get close enough to someone to make them sick. There. Is that juvenile enough for you to get the picture of or should I come down a few notches more? How about, "I know you are but what am I?" Surely that will work for you. Run along now. Homework awaits barfboy.

I liked 1984. Animal Farm was even better. Has George Orwell had an affect

Yes, she has a lot of class. I'll bet she can even offer
congratulations to someone without simultaneously trashing someone

and Pettersen's +2 was -2 starting the 15th... bogey, double bogey,

I think Petterson realized she was wearing a white shirt and didn't
