Does anyone know of a good quality practice mat that can be used by
placing on top of a poor quality practice mat at my local range?

Thank you

Well if you have a 100 yards of property, maybe you should think about
investing in a driving range. You are definitely out of my economic
strata.

You could always build a enclosed net area.

I did check out the Fiberbuilt on the range today, and the green top
matting was very thin, What makes it good was the compressed foam
stuff, like under a carpet attached to it. Then the rest of it was
just a cut out mold of hard rubber which let those two things snuggly
fit in. Really all one would need is to get the top matting which one
can get for fairly cheap, and build all the other stuff from other
materials.

The best mat I have ever seen and used at a driving range is made by
fiberbilt and they have a site. I think there are components to the
whole thing.

If you put a Fiberbuilt mat on your property; is there the other half - a
mat to make a little green a hundred or so yards away on another part of
your property?

The mats without "grass" suck, because you can't possibly hit anything
but thin shots. IMO, the best mats are the ones that have 1/2"-3/4"
fake grass that hole the ball up a bit, and hit down on the ball.

Plus, you won't break your wrists on those things.

I agree, there are many to chose from and the names aren't household.
I would go find a range that has an ideal mat. I hate the ones that
have any elevation from the standing area to the hitting area. I don't
like the ones that have too spongy of a feel, and a lot do in the tee
area of the mat. I like mats that are big enough with all hitting
surface so you can hit all your clubs there, and have a pretty firm
feel. Some of those cheaper mats are so spongy that it feels like one
is hitting out of one inch rough.

There's a bazillion mats you can buy. Just google "golf practice mat"

The problem is, if you only put the mat where the ball is, the ball
will be an inch or so above your feet. Otherwise you'll have to buy a
full size mat and lug it around.
