Well, some more stellar golf by these guys who are so good. Calchavecchia gets a tournament handed to him when Slocum misses a 3-footer to get in to a playoff, after Calch completely dogs it from the center of the fairway. A bright note was CHIII, who got off to a terrible start but fired a 65 on Sunday, once again, to get in to the top ten. CHIII may be very close to realizing his potential and becoming the golfer most likely to challenge Woods over the next ten years. David

His approach was 3 feet short of great. It's not like he put it in the trap........it was dead on line. His chip shot was very good considering the lie. It was buried. He missed the putt. Even #1 in the world misses putts. He shoots -1 for the day and you make him sound like a hacking dog.

If I hadn't caught around 10 minutes of the American broadcast instead of the TSN (Canadian rebroadcaster) I'd have no idea what PODS was. Hell their site has a Canadian component to it and yet I've never seen one of their containers. The name sounds like a bad sci-fi movie. CHIII or Chuckie the 3rd or whatever other silly number name you want to give him is just one of the many faceless tour players out there. If it wasn't for his ewwwww beer stunt after winning a tournament sponsored by a brewery and his pretentious sounding name I doubt I'd remember him. Then again I don't follow pro golf all that closely. Like many I'd rather be playin' than watchin'.

Well, CHIII is more than just one of the many faces and as he enters his prime years, you will see why. CHIII has a lot of game in his bag and the only thing that has been really holding him back was his putting. So far, he seems to have found a putting game after putting immense amounts of time and energy in to improving it during the off-season. David

Seems to me that all that separates all the nameless, faceless hoards that make up the majority of pro golf tourneys is well the putting. So I would imagine that he isn't the only one of the bunch who worked on his putting and short game. Actually I'd venture to guess it would be close to 100% of them. Hell go to any course out there and you'll find tons (ok maybe not tons but quite a few) guys who have game but just lack the ability to putt. I remember my first match play tourney I took part of when I was working at one of the local courses. The guy had game. Bombing it 40, 50 yards past me. Nice deft lobshots. Thought I'd get slaughtered. Turned out the guy had a weakness and it was putting. He was one of the worst putters I've seen and he worked diligently at improving that part of his game. Last time I saw him play he was as bad as ever.

Well, except for guys like Wadkins or Irwin who both missed 1-inchers by whiffing on them. And of course, Doug Sanders, whose twitch at St. Andrews allowed Nicklaus to win the Open Championship. And of course, Scott Hoch (rhymes with Choke) who "gave" Faldo his first green jacket. But other than that, those old guys just didn't choke. They ALWAYS shot 65 on the last day and they were never satisfied with 2nd place, especially in Majors. I mean, you just didn't see guys finish second a lot back then. They had the will to win in those days. If someone finished 2nd 18 times in Majors, for example, that guy must've been a real spineless jellyfish .... a real choker even worse than Greg Norman. Ya feel me? No sir, those boys had game back then. And big brass balls in their huge ballsacks. Not like these paintywaists today with their own little personal trainers, their agents, and their fuckin Blackberries. You haven't tasted fear until you've come down the 72nd hole battling it out with Gibby Gilbert and Dick fuckin Mayer. [Ed Note: That last line is courtesy of Bruce Devlin, who once told me about a tournament he had in the bag until "Dick Fuckin Mayer" holed a 7-iron on the 72nd hole to beat him.]
