A friend of mine will be vacationing in Gattlinberg next Spring and was
asking me about good golf venues. Asside from Pungent Municipal, you
got any recommendations in the general vacinity?

TIA - dug

He can have this one. I have little knowledge of the courses in the
Gatlinburg area.

Thanks All. I'll snip & paste some of this to my friend. I'm sure
he'll appreciate it.

Certainly, Eagles Landing is well worth it, and close by in Sevierville.

River Islands is a must play. Hell, it's worth cart fee just to drive
around it and look at it. Zoysa fairways. Nature tour, lots of wildlife.
Smack a goose and stuff it in your bag for dinner :) No walking ever
though (couple of back tracks over French Broad River and you'll see
why).

Come down to the Townsend side and try Laurel Valley, nice 18 holer
tucked into a picturesque valley. Another five miles toward yville
from there is Lambert Acres, sporty muni with 27 holes, no tee times
ever. Original 18 pretty easy if you stay out of the tree lines, newest
9 tougher.

Another five miles or so from there, thorough yville, is Egwani
Farms, very nice shape course, little pricey for what it is, but nice
(free range balls with green fee), and almost across the road is Pine
Lakes, a much played, cheap, but sporty muni, all you want from the back
tees, too.

Of course, if you're willing to go all around Knoxville, LOTS of
options, like Willow Creek and Three Ridges (where Hogan/Nike/Nationwide
used to be), Centennial, etc etc.

Eagles Landing is good, not walkable though. Long distances between
greens and tees.

River Islands was pretty interesting. You play on and among three
different island in the Tennessee River.

One course he has GOT to play is Hillbilly Golf. No doubt about it.

I agree that Eagles Landing is an interesting course. A terrible piece of
land to build a golf course on, but somehow, they made it work. But John is
right; you wouldn't want to walk it (unless you're a mountain goat). And
for that matter, the windy path that leads down from the tee to the green on
the first par three (#2, if I recall) is one that, even in a cart, you'll be
riding the brake for all it's worth. Scary as hell.
