How exactly are the scores on PGA tour events formally handled? Do
competitors still keep their partners scorecard? I believe that the famous
di Vicenzo 1968 Master's problem was that Tommy Aaron (I think) scored
Roberto with a 4 instead of a 3 on one of the finishing holes. Is it still
done that way? Are the players responsible for the total score, or is this
done by "the committee" as specified in the ROG?

In this case Roberto was given the higher score. Would Roberto have been
DQ'ed for signing for a lower score than he actually took on a hole?

Thanks.

Done by the committee.

Players on the PGA TOUR still carry their own scorecards, and they also k
their opponent's score (not sure if they do this on the same card or not).
At the end, they have to verify that their score is accurate, and turn in a
signed card. Just like in the old days.

I don't quite understand this, since there are "walking scorers" with every
group. But those are volunteers, and it seems to me they're just as likely
to get it wrong, especially if a player were to incur a penalty that only he
knew needed to be assessed.

But whatever the TOUR's scoring procedure might be, it has nothing to do
with Augusta National's procedure for players keeping their scores at The
Masters.

I have been a Walking Scorer for the Champion's Tour event in Portland, Or.
The Walking Scorer keeps the scores for Shot Link system (live internet
scoring) and the scoreboards on the course. We also go into the scoring
trailer and read the scores to the Pro if they request it. The pro keeps
has the other player's card, sometimes the caddy carries it.

The comittee used to photocopy them at the turn but they don't bother with
that any more.
