Hi There Not posted to this group yet but found the information on here very helpfull in my new hobby of golf, I have been playing now for over 8 months had some leasons and starting to get better. I am looking to upgrade some of my clubs as been using very cheap, unfitting and not whats right for me (from what I can gather from information gleaned off this site and otheres). I have always been into working with my hands and have reciently been reading allot about building my own clubs but am finding it very hard to find any shops or stockists of club building kit in the UK or even Europe it all seems to come from the states and I dont rearly want to have to get all the hastle of ordering and paying import taxes as am on a buget is there anyware you can tell me that might help as I am very interested to try this out? Also forgot to mention that my options are even more limited as I am left handed and finding good left handed clubs is hard already. Thank you all for your help with this matter

Hi there Been a while since been on this group thank you all for your replies, I have contacted golfsmiths again about ordering some equipment and have been told that I need to email them with the club builders / makers cource that I have attended as they will only sell to trade I am rearly getting hacked off with this do they not want my money or somthing! I was wondering if there is anyone on this group that might be willing for me to use there name as a refferance to them that I had attanded a cource by them ? This I feel id the only cource of direction left other than give this up as a bad idea and continue to pay over inflated prices of OEM clubs. Look forward to hearing from anyone who can help.

Hi Mike Thank you for your help with this I have contacted golfsmith and they have told me that they will not sell any club components to me unless I go on one of there cources as I am not a registered club builder. I think this is stupid personally as they will not make any money off me now as there cource cost over =A3700 to go on and thats before you take into acount traveling and hotel accomodation. I was wondering if there is anyone that would be willing to open a credit card account for me I dont know if this can be done or not. I have not contacted golf works as yet but that will be my next port of call. Am I the only one that can see by not letting individuals open accounts they must be losing a masive amount of revenue that this would generate, I sappose they are concurned that if people realise you can build your own clubs just as good as the =A3500 sets out there for a fraction of the cost then they will boycot the main stream oem clubs, but I dont see how this would effect golfsmiths revenue as before I looked into club making I did not even know there brands existed!! I have been playing golf for over 8 months now and have never seen a single snake eyes club or any othere make that golsmiths supplies. I would also be very interested to find any one that imports components into the uk and maybe buy from them if the price was ok, I have seen some parts on ebay i.e very few shafts and grips but no heads or building equipment.

I went to Golfsmith US and UK and both say that anyone can order from them. I've order some components from Golfsmith US myself with no issues. Quote from Golfsmith UK "If you are not trade. We still want your business and hope you enjoy looking through our website. To order you need to check-out our Stockist Location for your nearest retail golf shop or custom clubmaker, who will be pleased to deal with your order, or call Golfsmith Europe on +44 (0) 1 480 308800 for assistance." And if you take some care, you can build clubs that will be as good as what you can get from OEM sources. One of the major component houses--Golfworks, Golfsmith, or similar--has a European presence, so you should be able to find components. I suggest a couple of things. First, make a wedge or something similar. One club, so you can get the basics down (gripping, preparing hosels for epoxy, and the like). It won't cost that much, and it'll help you model the entire process. Then, find some components you like (there are some pretty good lefty components out there). Choose shafts (something like True Temper Lite XL), and get a couple extra for sorting and matching (and possible mistakes :). Get some ferrules, and some grips, some epoxy, and you have most of what you need. Both Golfworks and Golfsmith offer a beginning kit for clubmaking at around $100 that's pretty good, so I'd look at that if I were you. You will find that this isn't hard, just that mostly we have no referents for it. And you can ask here for advice. You should be able to build a very nice set of irons (3-PW) for under $200 this way.
