Anyone know what the restrictions are on USPGA Tour players playing in a Nationwide event? I'm asking because in the New Year there are two Australasian Tour events that are co-sanctioned with the Nationwide tour. If an Australian who is a member of the USPGA Tour and the Australasian Tour wanted to play, is he prohibited under USPGA Tour rules from going back down to the Nationwide? -- Cheers Colin Wilson ------------------------------------------------------------------ Trentham Golf Club: http://www.trenthamgolf.com Barnbougle Dunes: http://publishing.kyneton.net.au/barnbougle ------------------------------------------------------------------

There are all manner of restrictions upon TOUR players, and all manner of exceptions and exemptions as well. Ernie and Fichem got in a small dust up a couple of years ago over the issue. Basically, beyond the minimum, playing on other tours creates an expectation of playing more TOUR events as well. Seems Norman chaffed over these rules and ultimately gave up his TOUR card because of them. TOUR players aren't "allowed" to play Nationwide events, with many notable exceptions. Depending upon how the FedEx cup thingy goes, I can see the TOUR demanding that players that qualify for some of the "premier" events actually show up for them. Imagine the result of Phil and Tiger deciding they are too tired to play in the FedEx cup.

Several PGA Tour players, who also had privileges on the Nationwide Tour, have played in Nationwide Tour events. Mostly when the PGA Tour event that week was a limited field event such as the Byron Nelson Invitational which only invites 120 players. Jason Gore played one in Boise instead of a PGA Tour event in which he could have played because that was the tournament that had given him a sponsors exemption when he really needed one and he wanted to repay them by bringing them some publicity. gary hayenga

Wasn't Gore a special case? He was promoted to the big tour mid-season and wanted to honor a commitment to the Nationwide event he won the previous year.
