Subject: Muni regular
Prior to a couple of years ago, I would rarely play a muni, and had
played most of my rounds at private country clubs or upscale semi
private type courses or upscale "public" courses. Over the 5 years
prior to say 2005 I probably spent $500.00 per month or so golfing,
which I didn't really see as a big expense all things considered. I
had always thought the "real" goflers were the people you find at CC's
and upscale public courses. Apparently, I was wrong!

Having played the local muni for 50 bucks a month, and rarely riding,
I'm probably spending less than $100.00 per month on golf..no more
range balls either! The people I find my self sharing a round with
don't roll the ball for the most part, rarely get huffy when they miss
a shot or a putt doesn't drop, and generally don't look for me to make
the round some sort of social event for them. Like me, they are there
to play golf for the enjoyment of the game, for the most part. Not
that you don't get some gruesome hackers at munis, but these days,
they are everywhere (there was a time you had to be able to golf to
play at a costly golff course, but no more..no different than munis in
that respect).

I joined a couple of groups of muni golfers, and neither roll the ball
at all, and have rigid gimmie rules (ie it *HAS* to be within a
certain distance, be it your 1st or your 5th or whatever putt). I
haven't seen that anywhere else for a long time. From what I can see,
the real golfers play the munis! In any event, for me it's a lot
cheaper and a lot more fun. The only downside is the landscaping
usually isn't as nice (although there are some nice munis out
there...even in these parts!). I asked the balls and the clubs I use
to golf if they care about the landscaping, and they haven't yet
replied. If they don't care, why should I?

So, you used to be an "upscale" douche nozzle, but now you're a public
douche nozzle?

I'm not sure why you felt we needed to know that, but thanks.

Depends on if I'm playing for practice, or playing for handicap. I
may get roasted for this, but if I'm just out to enjoy the weather,
smell the grass and hitting shots, then no. When I play with the
regular group, I putt everything out.

So putting out is onerous for you? I love the sound of the ball
rolling into the cup myself, even when I am "just having fun".

And I've missed short putts - my confidence is helped by repetition in
making the shot.

Fair enough. It's been so long since I had a round that didn't have
anything riding on it, I don't know if I'd putt out then or not.

Of course I do, it's how the game is played.

"Rigid gimmee rules" God love those muni golfers, keeping the game
pure.
