How does playing badly against the men hurt her game more than playing
badly against the women? Her game is her game and right now it stinks.
I'd blame Leadbetter before blaming her bad play on her PGA Tour
appearances.

It could be argued that her early appearances on the men's tour
improved her game. She had some very nice finishes on the LPGA Tour
after that. And who knows? Maybe her current sour streak in the men's
events will provide her with some mental toughness that she lacks. A
little humility isn't such a bad thing ..... or so I'm told.

I recall reading (or hearing on TV) that Tiger has won 25% of the PGA
events he's
entered, which is about double the rate of the next-best percentage
(Nicklaus).

I wonder what Bobby Jones' numbers were for the amateur and open events
he
entered. Maybe 50%? It wouldn't be hard to find all his USGA and
major British
records, but what about Southern Opens and the like?

I presume you mean against women, not men.

That's actually possible, but hardly a slam-dunk.

Not until I had raked in a couple hundred million... then I'd retire. :)

Absolutely. I'm embarrassed with my game for much less each week on
the course. Why not be embarrassed for a ton of money? :-)

Those guys didn't post any score at all. They were DQ'd.

And, surely folks who read this group at all know I was kidding about
Wie. Does anyone think ANYONE would really be jazzed about her beating
David Chin?

My tone didn't come through.

Unfortunately, Wie has said that she will play as many tournaments
on the men's tour as possible. She is definitely a glutton for
punishment.

Who would refuse the "punishment" she has endured if given the choice? Agree
with it or not, some people look at their career as predominantly an income
source, not as a way to carve their name in the annals of "legends of the game".

If you could take your current game, play on the tour, get your ass handed to
you consistently, all the while making millions of dollars, would you refuse to
do so?

She does not make money playing the men's events, she gets sponsor
exemptions which enable her to compete. I am quite sure that she is
not receiving any appearance fees for he efforts.

Her contract with Nike pays the bills and she should use that
opportunity to take on the women. She has completely overextended
herself trying to compete with the men and it will hurt her game more
than improve it.

Her boss is Nike. I don't know what Nike tells her to play.

She also has a big Sony endorsement and, surprise, surprise this happens to
be the Sony Open so one assumes Nike isn't calling the shots this week.

And you don't think that her taking advantage of these exemptions has anything
to do with the Nike contract? Are not sponsers exemptions specifically about
about attracting attention to the tournament? Isn't attention exactly what Nike
wants when they give an athlete a contract?

She might mature into a strong player that dominates the women's tour for years
and makes their hall of fame. Or she might not. If she does then somewhere
along the way she might actually finish respectably in a PGA event. Or she
might not.

None of those hypotheticals have much at all to do with what she does NOW. To
improve (if she's going to) she needs to play in competitive events. She is
doing that. Is it your position that playing competitively can only improve
your game if you win or finish near the top? There's an awful lot of young
players missing cuts week in and week out that sure hope you're wrong.

The main point is that if she ultimately does NOT evolve into a strong player on
the womens' tour and fades into obscurity the way she has managed her early
years have made her very wealthy. If she had "gone the usual route" and ended
up a nobody she could have ended up spending the rest of her carreer teaching
hacks how to get under 100. I cannot find anything to fault in what she has
done.

They both signed incorrect scorecards. They each gave themselves pars
on holes where they bogied.

As for Michelle, she's going to finish her last 2 holes and post a
score better than them. She'll also have beaten David Chin and Abe
iano, and I'd suspect her final score is a hell of a lot better than
any RSG 4-some could put up in a best-ball putt-putt contest.

I suspect she'll win pretty soon somewhere, likely before Tiger loses
again.

Wie wins somewhere before Tiger loses? Just so you know, Tiger wins well
less than 50% of his starts on average, Wie has not won anything in over 3
and a half years.

Ah, thanks for that info.

I don't get it.
Ames shot 3 over for the tourney.
Johnson 1 over.
Wie is 13 over at the moment.
How can she post a lower score?

Regardless, she posted a better score than Stephen Ames, and I'd
suppose there are some here who think he's a pretty solid player.

She's still on the course, so how do you know?

Ames was also disqualified. So was Tom Johnson.
What for I wonder?
