Subject: Matchplay: So its a putting competition, is it?
OK this is a coverage rant. All we get to see is players on the green
putting. That's it. The only driving we're shown are on the reachable
par 4. And the only iron play we see is on the par 3's. What's up with
this? I think the problem is they are trying to show what everybody is
doing, so zooming in on the greens is the natural thing to do.

Hope it improves as we get closer to Sunday.

What I want to see in match play is strategy. But the TV crew has to
watch all over to see when the strategy is showable (other than just
"try to make birdies").

In match play each putt has significance as it affects the outcome of
the hole.
Thus, there is more "excitement" about each putt than in a typical
stroke play event.

You are right to call it a putting competition. That's pretty much
what separates the wheat from the chaff on the pro tours. The Match
Play coverages puts a spotlight on the importance of putting.
