Subject: Let the other guy win.
Last year at our club I managed to win the mens senior club
championship.

as a result of winning that one, I had a match play game for the c
flight championship.

before this game started I was approached several times by my
opponents buddies to throw the game.

I just couldnt believe that some golfers would even think of doing
this sort of
behaviour...

You wouldnt believe the horse shit they tried to pull on me...

But I told them all to shove it and that I play to win...

I played in the match play game aand won that one also.. Winning that
game was the best feeling I have ever had playing golf...

cheers...

Those amounts aren't out of line with the major tournaments at my cc,
and the vested membership dues are less than $500 a month.

It is said of Moe Norman that when playing in the US he would do that,
(intentionally lose) because he was so shy that any interview or press
attention was just too much for him: autism, socially not up to it,
whatever. Terror.

Perhaps they were suggesting you throw the game on the grounds that
you were no longer an amateur after accepting $150000 in prizes and so
you shouldn't really be playing in a club tournament? :-)

So they can lay down real money in the form of bets in favor of the other
guy who doesn't have a chance.

The winner of the match received $1000.00, they claimed since I won
the mens senior championship
five weeks previous, and I also received $15000.00 in prize dollars,
I should just let the other guy win...

Has anyone in golf ever been asked to throw a match...? I like the
club were I play but these guys are like rotten apples in a barrell.

Cheers Jake.

It's not the kind of thing that either party would talk about.

On the other hand, it has been widely and often reported that Annika
Sorenstam (years ago) frequently threw matches because she didn't want
to be in front of people at the winner's ceremony. I've never heard
anything but "how sweet" about that.

You might want to get a cool rag for your forehead, or maybe start
breaking the tablets in half.
