Got out for my last round of the year today. Interesting year all told,
especially today.

Forgot my putter at home - had to borrow playing partner's. Oops.

Holed a double-hit chip. Actually, I was trying to blade it from up against
the collar, it hopped straight up and I caught it again, but it rolled
right in the centre. A different way to get it up and down, I guess.

Lipped out a chip for bogey on 8 and holed a 40 footer for double on 14.

Ended up with an 82 on the 74.2/143 Forest City National track, which is not
all that bad considering I've been battling a sinus infection for the past
two weeks and had prepared for the round by spending those two weeks lying
on the couch. One lonely birdie on 10 with an up and down that made it
worthwhile heading out there. And the last swing of the year was a
beautiful high 4-iron, err wedge from 200 yards that went right over the
stick.

2006 stats:

First round: April 16
Last round: Oct 10
Total rounds: 18
Index at start of year: 3.1
Index at end of year: 2.5 (lost a -0.9 diff today so it went from 2.0)
Low score: 72 (1.2 diff)
High score: 87 (10.1 diff)

I got new irons before the year began and still don't feel completely
comfortable with them. Went from the crazy off-set Dynacraft DFS irons to
the much less off-set Wishon 752tc irons. Still not completely used to
having less off-set (had Ping Eye 2s for 10 years before the DFSs). Found
the ball went higher and I had more weak flares to the right than I had in
the past. Something that will come around, I'm sure. I'll probably go
back to the clubmaker over the winter and do a little tinkering with them,
at least make sure they're still a good fit for me. They also have shafts
that are about a quarter to a half inch longer than what I had before and I
hit a lot more fat shots than I ever had in the past.

Overall, I'm relatively pleased with the year. Considering how little I
play and that I never practise (saw the range maybe 4 times this year), I
still manage to play some decent golf on occasion. Just sad to see another
golf season end.

We must be getting all your rain here in NW Pa. We set a record for
rain in the month of Sept. and it's rained half the days in October.
Our Octoberfest tourney makeup from
last Wed. got rained out again today. Tomorrow is supposed to be the
third attempt at
having the city senior tourney. Since it's still raining, since last
night, and the course has
no cart paths, it will probably be cancelled.

I just am awestruck that you can play so little and score so well. I've
never heard of such a thing.

The season where I currently am (Louisville KY) was great last year.
Didn't miss a week all winter. This winter might be wetter, but I hear
warmer, so probably will be able to play through it again. That's nice.
I like to get out there in a sweater and coat with the other nuts!

I don't bother driving to the course if it's under 40 degrees. But
anything above that - unless there's a howling wind or snow on the
ground - and I'm game.

Enjoy your hockey!

my last round of '06 will be on 12/31. My first round of '07 will be on
1/1. This year I had 12 rounds played on 1/12. I'm going to extend that
record in '07 :) My yearly record is 256 rounds, which is probably
intact for awhile unless work slows down a little bit...

while it pays to live where there is no winter as I do now, my 256 round
record was set in Humboldt Co in northern CA where the average annual
rainfall is 65". So, winter is no excuse :)

If what they say comes true, we will be colder and wetter in Texas this
winter....so I hope it comes true! We really do need the rain, I'll
give up playing alot this winter for the wet stuff!

I heard a new story that you guys were under stage 1 drougt warning --
restrictions on watering lawns, washing cars, etc. They said your
reservoirs are down 35%. Ouch.

We, on the other hand, have had a nice run of rain. Not too much, not
too little, spread out pretty evenly.

Actually, the truth behind the drought is that the intelligent people
(IOW, not in Dallas county) have been in Stage 3 since the beginning of
June. Watering once a week, no car washing at the house at all, etc.

However, Dallas just this week, imposed stage 1. Voluntary
curtailment. Egotistical bastards all need to be shot.

Half your luck. We have had 2mm so far this month, monthly average 86mm.

Today is a day of total fire ban in our district, first one for the
season. Predicting 33C (92F) with hot northerlies, and we're only half
way through Spring.

The weather man said yesterday that the air over the continent at
present is the driest ever recorded, humidity only around 10%.

Got to get down and play the course before it turns to straw. Reckon
I've got about three weeks of green fairways left. :-(

Well, it got to 36.6C (97F). Second-hottest October day on record, only
beaten by a day in 1914 that was 0.3 degrees hotter.

Relative humidity dropped to 9%, the weatherman said he'd never seen
that here before. In the north of the State RH was 1%, almost unheard
of. There are 100 fires burning around the State.

It's the end of the world, I tell ya.

I played golf. Never been so hot in October. The northerly winds reached
30 knots, and I was quite pleased with my score of 33 Stableford points,
including parring the last three holes for 3 points each. Didn't even
come close to getting a ball in the ball comp.

My self imposed rule is to not tee off if the temp is 34 or below AND I know
that it will only go lower during the day.

The say El Nino is going to make the temperatures in early winter, in
the US, milder. I live in the mid-Atlantic and I have visions of the
winter of 2001-2002 in my head. Practically wearing shorts all winter
and playing golf two to three times a week.

One can always hope --- we do every time we drag the clubs out for more
punishment...
