I know better than to hit balls at the range, but the round today came
with a free bucket o balls. I must have shanked 3/4 of them; a nice
thought to take to the course. Couldn't hit the ball on the front 9,
shaked everyu bunker shot...and to top it of, a cow moos loudly at the
top of my swing on one shot, a ball lands beside me at the top of my
swing on another shot and a bug lands on my ball just as I start my
downswing on another shot. Fortunately I was shanking because I was
leaning forward, and it was easy enough to figure out ans stop
doing...easy enough to get a couple of sandies on the back and I go
51/44, which is not too bad for me on a course I've never played before.
Only managed one reasonable drive though.

Sounds good. I think I'll go down there tomorrow just to make sure the
course is still in good shape...you never know! ;^)

i generally agree with you, *but*:

i'm not a morning guy, so if i'm playing an early tee time i HAVE to go to
the range just to wake up and loosen a little. i pretty much go 5 balls per
club and hit pw, 8, 5, 3, driver, and maybe a couple 3 woods. i finish with
2-3 pw just to get the confidence back before heading to the first tee.

i go thru the same pre-swing routine with each ball just to slow down my
pace, my breathing, and to settle it all down (which is really nothing more
than stand a few yds behind the ball, pick my spot 10 yds away, address (a
waggle or two) and fire. the short irons typically are ok, skull a couple
of the long irons, and the driver is so so. then i wrap up with 2-3 more
pw/9i--really important for me--i noticed a change in my atitude when i
started doing that.

ususally i play in the afternoons if possible. for afternoon rounds i never
hit the range--i'm awake and the busienss of the day has me loose enough...

Why not hit balls on the range? If your not shifting your weight
properly your going to hit stinky shots on the range & the fairway. I
don't mind hitting a small bucket. I hit mostly irons, a few driver, a
few fairway woods. Hitting too many balls ... say more than 50 is no
good for me. I tend to loose focus & hit them crappy once the bucket
goes down.

Hey Rob,

I might be able to play Brookhaven on the 14th of April.

No problem for me. They might have their 1 man scramble that weekend, which
is a fun event, and comes with a crawfish boil. Probably 80 bucks for non
members. I'll check and see if it's that weekend.

If they have an event that weekend I'll pass. Barry is going to
Lafayette that weekend so I can go there and play with him and another
friend or head up to Brookhaven. They're both the same distance so I
can go either way.

The scamble is the weekend earlier...so it looks pretty good for the 14th!

I'll try to make it up there. I may have a children's event at the
zoo that day that I'm still waiting to hear word on.
