I am a beginner with 9 months experience. By others, I have been told that it's possible to estimate how far I should be able to hit the ball based on 1 club. On a par 3 hole (177 yards), I hit the ball 175 yards with a 5W. How far should I be able to hit it with a driver?

If you are a beginner about 130 yards.

How fast was the train going south traveling? Here's a good idea, next time out, go to the next hole, probably a par four or five and hit your driver. Or are you just playing one of those one-hole golf courses that seem to be springing up everywhere these days.

Not that easy. I hit a 5w from 170 -190, bout your range. I hit my drivers from 225 - 275. Some drivers I hit further but avg 240 w/ my "straight" driver. On a par 3 hole (177 yards), I hit the ball 175 yards with a 5W. How far should I be able to hit it with a driver?

It's about 10 to 15 yards per club, assuming your clubhead speed with the driver matches closely to what it was when you hit your 5W 175 yards. So, you would hit your driver at least 215 yards, or a maximum of 235 yards. Now, if you have a really good driver, a really good ball, a hot day, a little wind behind you, and your really cranked it up and increased our clubhead speed by 10 %, you might be able to launch a ball 250 yards with your driver!!!

Seriously, there are way too many variables for anyone here to give you a reasonable estimate. What's the loft of your 5W? How well do you swing your driver? What kind of driver is it? What is the loft of your driver? What kind of ball do you use? Do you fade, draw, slice, or hook the ball? What is your swingspeed with the 5W? Do you hit your driver high, low, in between? Etc., etc., etc. ... - cja

OK, I recognize that, but I've been told that between each iron, it's usually about 10-15 m. With my 9 - I usually get 85m; with my 8, I get around 100m. I thought maybe it would be something like this (simplyfied): 5W - 175 yards 4W - 190 yards 3W - 205 yards 2W - 220 yards Driver - 235 yards "cja" <cja@excite.com > skrev i melding news:1171048027.291990.256800@q2g2000cwa.googlegroups.com... > On Feb 9, 11:51 am, "Terje T" <supporter4e...@hotmail.com> wrote: >> I am a beginner with 9 months experience. Drivers come in varying lofts from (normally) 9 to 14 degrees; which one is yours? Same with the 5-wood. There is no one loft that describes the club. There just isn't a reliable way to tell. If you want me to guess, I will--you hit the driver 200-210. :) Mike > > "cja" <cja@excite.com> skrev i melding > news:1171048027.291990.256800@q2g2000cwa.googlegroups.com... >> On Feb 9, 11:51 am, "Terje T" <supporter4e...@hotmail.com> wrote: >>> I am a beginner with 9 months experience.
