Subject: How do you take your grip ?
When you address a golf ball (for full swings), how do you apply your
hands to the grip of the golf club?

More specifically: on your bottom hand, where is the knuckle of your
forefinger in relation to the shaft (top, bottom, left, right). I
started experimenting with the placement of this hand and I tried
placing this knuckle on top of the shaft (with no pressure) and I felt
nice. I am curious as to where other golfers place this part of their
bottom hand, and just what role it plays in holding the golf club.

Maybe a side question: what is the most critical part of the grip, and
why ? I once had an instructor tell me that the left heel pad (for
righties) is the most critical.

You might want to follow the tried and approved grip of the pros. Load
the site and scroll down to the Vardon Grip article.

Very good, but I can't find anything on how to grip the WOW putter that
I recently bought. I know you're an expert on this tool, so please help.

Yet many great golfers, including Mr. Woods, and Mr. Nicklaus use the
interlocking grip. I originally started with this grip, and after many
years, tried it again for about
two weeks, with good results. Unfortunately, it is not a good grip for
someone with
arthritis in the fingers, and the pain in my right little finger forced
me to go back to
the overlap. I may experiment using the interlock for short pitches and
chips.

Hogan sez squeeze the bottom hand forefinger and thumb together so
the last joint on the thumb pushes against the closest joint on the
forefinger.
Squeeze them together, and the V between the forefinger and thumb
should
point at the chin. My forefinger-knuckle ends up around 1:30 I reckon.

Most critical part of the grip....hmmm...the club is gripped close
to the palm, the tips of the fingers do as little to control the club
as possible. V on the top hand points at the back eye, V on the bottom
hand points at the chin, overlapping like Harry would have wanted.

I do not slice the ball. My poor shots are usually straight pushes to
the right. This is only something I am experimenting with. And I
think you might have misunderstood. The knuckle of my right forefinger
is not completely on top of the shaft. It just rests on the top/back
quarter of the shaft. If the top of the grip was 12:00 and the back of
the shaft was 3:00, then I bring this part of my right hand just about
to 1:00.

But, I will definately think about your observation that this might be
too strong.

Having slept on it - I definitely got it wrong - your grip is too WEAK,
not strong.

Ahh, you must be talking about the knuckle where the finger joins the
hand.

I don't worry about that knuckle. I align that part my grip (front of
bottom hand) with the knuckle of the first joint (the next one up) on
bottom of the shaft (6:00). The knuckle you are talking about ends up
where it ends up, usually around 3:00. My thumb is placed just left of
top-dead-center (right side of the nail is at 12:00) This is the last
part of the grip that I put on the club.

I'm not a very good golfer so YMMV.

Loosely speaking, put your palms together, now slide a club between the
middle two fingers of each hand (they are the one that grip most!)
Your grip with the right knuckle on top is way too strong - I bet you
slice terribly!
