I'm wondering if some people would use a wood to chip off a cart path. I might use my rescue wood - Charles Howell III would have had to use a 3W (or driver) to try that in the playoffs today.

You bet. Ram my wood into asphalt. I'll just get another one from home.

But, if I was playing at the local muni for $10 I'd take the drop and stroke.

I'd have played my 2-iron. I was too busy with my 2 year old, could not hear the annoucers, so I did not hear the explanation why he did not get a relief from the cart path?

He could have, but he'd have to drop behind the path which had a downhill lie and rough. It would have bounced forward so he could place it, but it would still be a downhill lie. The cartpath was level and its much easier to spin the ball off the path. Plus he had a perfect angle right between the trees, he couldn't guarantee that would remain if he dropped. I've played a few shots off the cartpath for similar reasons over the years, its pretty simple, just like hitting off hardpan. Most people don't even consider whether it is a better play or not, I've seen people take "relief" in some thick nasty grass when the shot off the path would be so much easier! -- Douglas Siebert dsiebert@excisethis.khamsin.net You're only young once, but you can be immature forever.

His PW - even when played behind his right foot - had too much loft for that situation. I'd have played my 2-iron.

I think he hit a piching wedge. Kinda looked like a low iron shot for me & a bump & run.

He did hit a PW - I can't imagine what he was thinking. He played it behind his right foot, but even then there was too much loft.
