Hello, Recently I purchased a full set of Adams OS2 irons, of which the 3,4,5 and 6 have a hybrid design. Even though I just took up the game of golf, I can hit the 7 - PW clubs fairly consistently, however, when I take out the lower irons (hybrids) I have literally no success whatsoever. I guess my question is whether or not one does something different when using hybrid clubs? Any experiential advise will be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Are you finding that you are topping the ball when using the hybrids? I was doing this myself because I was using too much of a sweeping motion like you would expect with woods but I needed more of a downward blow instead. This tip gives you the proper setup for using hybrids and might help. http://www.golfmedic.net/archive/hybrid-setup-from-the-tee-to-the-green/ Sincerely, Aeriell On Feb 5, 10:31 am, "Felice" <delco...@socal.rr.com > wrote: > Hello, > > Recently I purchased a full set of Adams OS2 irons, of which the 3,4,5 and 6 > have a hybrid design. > > Even though I just took up the game of golf, I can hit the 7 - PW clubs > fairly consistently, however, when I take out the lower irons (hybrids) I > have literally no success whatsoever. > > I guess my question is whether or not one does something different when > using hybrid clubs? The longer the club, the less forgiving. There are two major skill aspects to making a good golf shot: striking the ball cleanly, and making a good swing. You must have the former in order to evaluate the latter. Keep this in mind as you practice. These long clubs require you to hit the ball squarely in order to get a decent shot. If you're just a beginner, it's entirely possible that your ballstriking is preventing a good shot. Try hitting off a very short tee with these clubs. Try to figure out where on the clubface the ball is hitting, and if the clubhead is getting into the ground before hitting the ball. As for swing advice, I suggest you tread carefully. There is much more swing advice than there are good swingers, if that says something. While you may have companions who give good swing advice, the ones who do much more damage. I suggest you see a pro for lessons. Dave

Lower lofted clubs with longer shafts are simply harder to hit, especially with a novice swing. My advice, as always, is to take lessons - lots of them. It's the cheapest way to learn. Golf is a difficult sport.

Develop your swing so you can hit a traditional 3 iron. This club will force you to put a good swing on the ball. Once developed, have fun with the hybrids. I just think to start with hybrids is to stunt your swing develppment. Otto

Maybe we should start with 50 year old clubs and balls as well, only moving to the easier stuff after we learn the old ways of swinging...

It's a total wild guess as to what the problem might be without at least seeing you swing. And, in general, you're better off getting lessons from a professional than swing advice from the internet. But having said that ... it's probably mostly a matter of the longer-shafted, less-lofted clubs being a little harder to use. You don't mention how you do with fairway woods or a driver ... same problem there, or is it just the hybrids? Shorter clubs are simply easier to hit, and the higher lofts will tend to "hide" swing flaws (especially a slice). You can get away with "hitting" on the short irons, where long irons and woods require a smoother "swing" ... and it's harder to make precise contact with a longer shaft.
