His business dealings left a lot to be desired....and thought about. Plus, being known as "Governor death" because of the record number of executions during his tenure. http://austin.about.com/cs/bushbiographies/a/bush_background_4.htm http://austin.about.com/cs/bushbiographies/a/bush_background_5.htm

Here's a little math exercise. Multiply Iraq's proven oil reserves here http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0872964.html with the current price of oil here http://www.bloomberg.com/energy/ and you get ~6.8 trillion dollars. You guys are right, it's nothing. Hardly worth starting a war over. And certainly not in Iran either, which has even more oil than Iraq. No, we're going to invade them because they have WMD. Oh wait, that was Iraq. Nukes, that's it. We must invade because Iran wants to build nukes. Unlike, oh I don't know, N Korea. Which already appears to have them.

There's a difference between knowing something and having the standard of proof needed to publish it in a newspaper or broadcast it on TV without fear of a libel suit. I doubt very seriously that anyone in the media had solid evidence that Foley was sending sexually explicit e-mails to underage boys and chose not to report it.

About Foley's pathetic state: When I watch the "Dateline" shows about online predators, I get the feeling that they really are pathetic. Maybe not able to relate to people their own age or fixated at an age by some trauma or something. They should be locked up forever but I do see the pathetic side. When they are caught, they act like little children. The TV guy says "Go sit over there." and the sit. He says "Why were you here?" and they answer in quiet little voices, sometimes ... nevermind, this whole subject is too sick to try to understand. Nice try. There's no evidence that I've heard that anyone outside the Republican "family" knew about this. They did a nice job of sweeping it under the rug.........for a while. I will say this, though....if any Dems did know about it, they were just as culpable. Party ties have nothing whatsoever to do with this. It's just that, as far as we know, only Repubs knew about it. Your assumption that Dems knew, too, is not based on anything but wishful thinking. Randy

That kind of leaves you with the reality that killing an innocent person is what? negligent homocide? The police and DAs have demonstrated their corruption so many times it makes me wonder if the kinds of things they do should be prosecuted criminally.

How many "Christians" do you find on Death Row? Answer: Most of them rotting in cells waiting for their sentence. Nothing like the knowledge that you are about to meet your maker turns a person quick to the good book. I know, let's let them all out (the Christians) and send them to live in your neighborhood and attend your Church. Hint: get a gun and protect yourself...I doubt all of them will stay "christians" for too long. Tex

I guess I have to admit it's not all logical. He let a woman who had turned her life around, become a Christian and for years and years taught and ministered to prisoners where she was jailed. She murdered someone while on drugs and she was a teenager at the time. Her real crime, the thing that probably got her executed was that she said she got sexual satisfaction from the murder. That was sympton of how screwed up she was, having been raped and prostituted by one of her parents, maybe it was both. I swore I'd never forget her name, but I forget now, maybe for the best.

OK, I was trying to forget this, but after the Jon Benet thread that many of us got into, it occurs to me that Bill Clinton seems to be the kind of guy that would love beauty pageants. And if anyone would have been in favor of little girls learning how to pleasure men so that when they grew up, they'd be good for guys like him. I'm not saying he was after little girls but his actions sure didn't hurt the cause of pimps and other creeps trying to "turn out" young girls for prostitution or just privat use. I'm not saying what Clinton does, in that respect, and who believes he isn't still active? ... I'm not saying that's on a level with starting a war ... but let the chips fall where they may and some of the cow chips fall on Bill Clinton. Once someone has been executed defense attorneys move on to other cases where clients' lives can still be saved. Even if it happened once, that's too many.

How many wrongful executions have there been?

How many wrongful executions have there been? How many would it take for it to affect you? Someone wrote in this same thread ... 600K or 60K deaths in Iraq ... it's just a number. Bottom line "we killed some innocent defendants" ... does the number matter? How many would it take to matter to you?

With forensics the way it is nowadays I would guess this is very rare.

With forensics the way it is nowadays, we are finding out that previous trial methods had mistakes. But not everything can be forensically proven - chances are that the rest (the majority) are no more accurate than they ever were. That said - I don't find that the death penalty is significantly more onerous than life imprisonment (except when done for political means). Patrick Henry had it right. And there will be fewer people out there working to prove my innocence if I'm "only" losing my freedom.

So, I'll ask you in advance to prove that it hasn't. IMO the possibility of it happening is enough of a reason to ditch the death penalty.
