Subject: Heavy Netting...??
Hi kolfs. I was hoping to get some advice on where I can buy some
heavy duty netting. I have a real mat to hit off of, but continue to
eventually hit through the golf nets I buy. If I double up they last
longer, but I would like to find something of industruial grade.

I was at a local Golf Smith store the other day and they have the net
I was looking for in one of their hitting stalls. If anyone has seen
these, you know what I am referring to. The gentleman there did not
know where exactly I could find one like that.

Sooo does anyone know where I can get such a heavy duty Net? I'd like
to practice in my garage etc. I am not saying I have the fastest ball
speed, but I do tend to where through those $100 nets rather fast.

TIA -Hero

Try Army surplus or fish netting from some places in Florida. That's where I
bought mine, but even the heavy duty stuff won't keep a golf ball from
speeding through if it's not less than 1". I have no idea how a ball that
big gets through a 1" hole, but it does. It slows down a lot and a second
net of lesser thickness should stop balls hit with a driver, even a career
drive. Good luck.

I've noticed that some places don't have just a single net but two or
three layers of net which would probably be a lot more effective at
stopping balls even with 1 inch openings.

Find a place that sells archery netting. I've used that for years and
it is bullet proof. It won't wear out and you never put a ball
through it. A few D-ring loops to hang it with and some light chain
or weights at the bottom to kill the balls momentum.

I've found that fish netting works well. I live on the coast near a
working fishing port, so it's easy to pick up netting of all different
sizes and strengths at the local inas. It stands up much better than
the stuff sold for golf practice. I don't know how easy it is to get if
you don't live near the fishing industry, but try at the nearest
ina.

What your looking for comes from a company called Wittek. (Chicago IL.)
Wittek supplies most of the golf shops and green grass (courses) with
the nets, ball washers, benches, flag sticks, etc.

I dought that any big box retail will be able to help you. You need to
find an independent golf shop that has an account with Wittek because,
you can't buy direct. Check for their website or call direct for info.
on accounts in your area.

Oh, and by the by. Shipping cost on nets are a bitch.

Bogart Golf has very expensive fishing nets - and uses Cayman Island
balls.

If you're setting up in your garage, why not just buy an old carpet from
a garage sale or somewhere and hang that up about a foot from the wall
and hit into that?
