And it was with the 21 degree hybrid I disliked so much!

I hit the ball off of a tee of the par 3, making a big loft over a
swan that was right in my way, and watched as the ball landed
on the front of the green.

The first putt was a good 40 feet and it stopped just a few inches
from the cup. The tap in made 3.

That felt soooo good!

Just something I had to share....

You know there will be skeptics demanding some IR on that one. How
far was the distance on the hole?

Make sure the club fits. It's probably one of the easiest to have not
because you need to have the length of the shaft and the lie angle
coincide where the bottom of the club is laying flat on the ground and
not at a tilt. If you have a club like that with the heel grounded
and the toe up, it's easy to have bad shots hit, even if you put a
good swing on it.

I'm not much of a golfer, but the one distinction I do have is that I
birdied the very first hole I ever played on a golf course. It was a
par 3 and I hit the ball off the tee about one foot from the cup. It
was pure luck.

I think Els could beat half of us here if he just used the

Now there's something I'd like to see: tee shots with putters,
up the fairways with wedges and then putting with the driver.

Let's see 'em make a tournament out of that! :-)

Thanks for all the kind supporting words, all.
It was a big moment for me to get the first par and I was
bursting with energy because of it. I needed to download that
somewhere.

None of my friends play golf, no one in my family plays golf
and no one at work cares about golf.

I couldn't go yelling "FIRST PAR!! FIRST PAR!!" in the
clubhouse, now could I? :-))

Once you do it with a putter off the tee, and tap in with your hybrid
you will then become tournament ready. I don't think you are that far
off. Nice hole.

I think I read something like that from Ernie Els in last month's issue of
Golfers Magazine. He suggested to tee-off with a 3-wood, up the fairway
with a 5-iron and to the green with a lobwedge.
He said that tee to green in 2 shots makes him feel like he's playing very
aggressively. Now I know I've only been playing for a short while and all,
but from tee to green in two shots on a par 5 sounds pretty good to me! :-)

I have to agree with you on those hybrids. I can't seem even to get a
decent hit from mine let alone drive with it. I've got a 21*and a 24*
and can't seem to hit either. Any suggestions??

Getting your first par is very cool. When you get your first birdie
you will be amazed that it was so easy. All it takes is pratice,
practice and a lot of playing. Keep at it and keep enjoying the game.

Last august I had gotten my first par on a par five hole where I play.
Still shocked the heck out of me.hehe Now if I can shot par more often
than double par...

You're asking *me* for advice?
:-)

I've only been playing for a few months.
Up until a week ago I couldn't use my driver properly. When I got the
glitch in my swing corrected, I just decided to use the same swing with
the hybrid, only move the ball a little closer to the center of the stance.
That helped.
That, and using a tee.
My biggest mistake on the tee was setting up the ball. It was always too
low, because no one ever told me how to properly set it up.
Not even my golfpro.
From now on my drives will be long and straight and the par 3's will
be less challenging and more fun.

Something tells me that I'll get my first birdie on a par 3. :-)

It must have felt really satisfying on a par 5....

Excellent. I can't remember my first par, or even my first birdie. I
do remember hitting it to within 10 inches on a par 3 once, so close
to an ace.

Played 105 last weekend and got 3 pars, which is good going for me.
Blew a couple due to shanks. Dang.
