I'm surprised that the bumbling golf channel got so many first and second
rounds for this year. I like Kelly and Faldo too. What happened? TGC
couldn't have any money considering the way they've been screwing with
everything. Obviously I'm wrong, though.

Not exactly. IIUC, it wasn't so much that the ratings were down,
as that
they never grew to the level expected during the last contracts and no
one
expected them to grow that large this time. All the sports are casting
around for the right TV formula. MNF moved. Basketball is fumbling
around with their TV rights. NCAA is pretty solid but they are even
to expanding their bowl season beyond Jan 1. Baseball struggles to
keep their ratings in World Series. Even NASCAR has been seeing
a flattening of their growth. Even the Olympics has had varying
success
the last few times out. It remains to be seen if PGA TOUR golf made
the
right decision or not. Ya gotta figure everone is trying to figure how
to
get Tiger and Phil to play more, especially the premier, limited field
tournaments.

A lot of the tv deals were up this year. ABC/ESPN dropped 'em. That's
why TGC bid for and won the rights to Th/Fr rounds for the next 15 years
for all PGA Tour events.

Wow, 15 years. Sounds like TGC bit off more than they can chew, imo.

I think the Golf Channel is owned by ABC.

Arnold Palmer and Joeseph Gibbs founded it and owned most of it until
2000 when Comcast Cable acquired majority ownership. I think Arnie may
still be Chairman.

Very easy to understand-with golf ratings down, the other networks didn't
want them!

People have been saying that. What happened to the Tiger phenomena? Are the
ratings down for tournaments where he plays?
