I listened to a Golf Improvement podcast that said that Karate does something that golf should do. It was the system of belts - a white belt Karate won't try to do the things that a black belt will. Maybe it doesn't hurt quite as much when we find we were wrong about our capabilities.

theres also some nit wit who says he uses karate philospy to hit thru the ball too. HORSESHIT!!!! I studied the tial arts hardcore (kung fu, not bbble gum tie kwon do) for 12 years. Karate is easy. Golf is much harder to master, you can't cheat. A shit karate teacher gives out black belts for nothing. You can't cheat scores. I've been playing golf for 2 full yrs now. After lessons last yr I JUST got a repeatable swing & can kind of see the light. I guess golf instructors are like REAL karate masters when instructing. There only going to teach you a little at a time till your ready.

Try instituting a belt hierarchy at a country club and tell me how long before it is stopped?

And, cheating doesn't happen at your club? Have you ever heard any one say I am taking a bogey on that hole when the should be taking a quadruple bogey? The handicap card is only as good as the people who manage the handicaps at the club.

No, the handicap card is only as good as the golfer posting his score. There will always be sandbaggers but in any club they get flushed out pretty quickly. I detest sandbaggers but I love the guys who maintain "vanity handicaps" posting lower numbers than what they actually scored. I am happy to take whatever strokes they have to give me and to subsequently take dollars out of their pockets.

Yeah, what is it with golfers and their love affair with white belts?
