What does the term "whip the green" mean? It supposedly pertains to
golf course maintenance.

Thanks,

The term refers to a method for removing water (dew) or
light debris (tree-droppings). The 'whip' is a sturdy rod
with a more flexible and thinner material at the end.

The thin, whippy material is moved briskly over the surface
of the putting green to remove the dew or crud.

This link is for a patent for removal of dew on a golf green. If
you'll do an Edit/Find for "whip" it will take you well down on the
page were it uses this term for the removal.

I'll bite. My guess is that in humid areas, this refers to passing a
large teather over the surface of the green to break up any morning dew
and make putting a little more true distance-wise.

This is not a problem in Central Washington where I live, but, occurs
regularly in the Seattle area.
