Subject: Golf League Beer
In an after work golf league, there is one member who accepts a beer or
2 paid for by other league members. He rarely has more than the 2,
often only 1. But he NEVER buys. OK, maybe not never but very close
to never.

He accepts his one, sometimes 2 and than says so long and leaves. I
have brought it to his attention but it hasn't changed. Am I making
too much of this to expect him to decline should he be offered a beer
after golf if he knows he is not going to reciprocate.

Actually the guy is ried AND has enough money to reciprocate. He is
unduly sponging for sure. But advice well taken...not going to let it
bother me and now after the 2nd promise to myself to never buy for him
again, I'm done. Others can do as they please.

Oh, and I forgot to mention...when he gets in to the 19th first, he
most often buys himself one and doesn't even ask anyone else if they'd
like one. Second most often he doesn't even buy himself one and
doesn't offer to anyone.

So you play golf with Woody also?

While he's cheap, I don't see how it's any of your business if someone
else offers this guy a beer and he takes it.

If you're the one offering the beer, stop offering.

This is not a difficult situation.

Same thing as with sandbaggers - a Zen attitude will be good for your
game. Accept him as he is, and either pay or not pay for his beer -
don't expect to change him.

The more I can put aside these kind of irritations, the happier I will
be - and more to the point of this newsgroup, the better I will be at
maximizing my golf game.

I=B4m not a betting man but I would be tempted to bet that this guy is a
bachelor. It=B4s a long time since I realized that those bloody stingy
fellows keep everything for themselves, money and emotions alike.
Taking care of a woman will cost them some emotions and so they stay
unried. F

You: "Hey Jimmy, you want a beer?
Jimmy: "Sure."
You: "Good. Buy me one, too."

He is violating the social contract.
Next time you are getting yourself one try this.

You: "Hey Jimmy, you want a beer?"
Him: "Yeah, I'll have one."
You (paying for your beer): "They're $2.75" [pick up your change
and beer and leave him standing there with his mouth open and
his hands nowhere near his wallet.]
