After nearly freezing my ass off in a tournament this past Saturday
(40-45 degrees, 20 mph wind), I'm thinking of a cart cover. Golf Smith
has one for 100 bucks, but Carl's Golf Land has one for $190...

What's the diff? Are the $100 covers any good? Is it just the
durability of the material? Both are full covers.

Played my first round under my new cover and heater, and it was
fantastic. Saturday was about 45 degrees, and it rained for 5 or 6
holes. It was probably a balmy 70 degrees under the cover. The first
hour or so the heater and/or cover was fuming out, but once that
stopped (or I got used to it), it was great.

Shot a 78 (with 2 doubles due to horrible short game) on a 71.8/136
course that played VERY long because it was so wet and cold. I need to
figure out a way to keep the short game sharp when I only play once or
twice a week this time a year.

Hitting the links again today in similar conditions. It feels like I
just extended the golf season in Michigan by a month.

Just wanted people to know that the Coleman heater that Golfsmith sells
for $100 is at Dick's Sporting goods for $80. Got one today. Thx.

No doubt you would be just as up in arms if the Lancet study produced
conclusions you liked. Because you live for truth, casting aside any hint
of bias, trusting alone reason to illuminate what was mere darkness
before.

Like when you declared the war in Iraq has nothing to do with oil.

Ain't it awful? From Arctic to Equatorial all in one round.
We do have it tough here, Dave. Cripes. I got up this morning for my
walk, and it was only 60 at 7:00. Frigid, I calls it.
I feel your pain.

I wear the footjoy rain gloves, which are thinner than the winter
gloves. I tried the winter ones and I can't feel anything with them.

That's right here in Richmond. One of my golf buddies has a girlfriend
that works there. He got a pretty good employee discount on a speed
cart earlier this year. :)

There seems to be a top of the line heater by Coleman. Dick's Sporting
Goods has one for $80. I think I'll get one today. My hands get cold
easily, especially my right hand, due to a table saw accident about 4
years ago where I cut my finger really bad (didn't lose any parts,
luckily). However the circulation in that finger sucks!

I have a heater from Golfsmith, It works just great assuming you have a
cover on the cart.
I also looked for something cheaper for a while but nothing looked like it
would work
without a lot of modification. In the long run I thought it would be better
to spend a
few more bucks and get something designed for the purpose. I also got the
large holder.
each tank lasts about two rounds at a cost of about $1.50 per round. Keeps
the cart
about 20* warmer than the outside at least. Sometimes Golfsmith has them on
sale for $80.00.
If you play a lot of cold weather golf its worth it..

Do you wear winter golf gloves? I was surprised to find that I could do
just as well with them as a normal left-hand-only glove. They have
leather palms and are knit otherwise.

Thanks Mike. I got your message after I went to Golf Smith. They had
this

http://www.golfsmith.com/products/244715

Seems pretty durable. We'll see this weekend. I really only play
probably 4 or 5 times a year when I WISH I had a cover, so this should
last a long time.

Do you have a heater? Golf Smith had one but it was as much as the
cover ($100). I'm going to look at camping stores to see if they have
anything.

No, I don't have one. I've found that between dressing warmly (layers,
t-shirt, long-sleeved shirt, windshirt, stocking cap or earmuffs, winter
golf gloves), and maybe carrying a handwarmer, all I need to do is get
out of the wind, which the cart cover allows me to do.

I can golf down to about 30 degrees fairly comfortably so long as it's
not terribly windy.

Larry, I have this one from Buggies Unlimited:

http://www.buggiesunlimited.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=AC98635899

It's pricier than the others ($169), but it has lasted me several years
at this point and without any problems or undue wear. It fits a variety
of cart styles so that I can take it with me when we play away in early
ch.

In fact, I even customized it a bit to fit better on my cart (it's an
older model Yamaha) by using some snaps to hold the cover to the front
and back of the cart top.

It comes in different colors; mine's tan.

The front window can be zipped open or left shut, depending on
circumstances. It has a zipper in the middle, and the halves roll up
to each side. Nice feature.

I've also used it as a rain cover on days when we have to deal with
that. The sides roll up and out of the way if desired; it shows that in
the big photo.

I recommend it over the other cheaper ones if you're going to use it a
lot. The zippers, the fabric, the plastic windows are all heavier duty
than the cheap ones.
