Are "Tommy Armour" clubs branded with the full name or just the name "Armour". I have some photos (I wish I could post them here but I can't work out how) of approx 5 year old clubs I am looking to buy that have the name "Armour" branded on them; but the seller claims they are "TOMMY Armour" clubs. The only photos of equipment I can find on the net appear to show both Christian and Surname imprinted on the club. But this is not definitive. I am a hack golfer who does not want to get involved in a discussion on the merits of different types of equipment. I'll make those (probably wrong) judgements on my own. I am merely curious as to whether these are genuine "Tommy Armour" equipment or some type of imitation.

Thanks for the information. I appreciate both your input which has really made it clear as mud :-) I've got a chance to look at them tomorrow which should give me more information. I'll let you know how I went.

It really does seem for a while there, in the 845s era, the clubs (at least some model sets) had only "Armour" on them. But so far, haven't seen anything but the 845s that had only the one word. MM

But I very seriously doubt that. Every Tommy Armour club that I have seen had the script "Tommy Armour" on it. dave

The brand name is "Tommy Armour". The logo is rendered in cursive script with both words. Caveat emptor. -- Watson deMeneux -Say it out loud next time you're in a restaurant.

Taint necessarily so... I have a set up 845's titanium face. They just say "Armour" on the bottom. The shafts, which are Aldila graphite "G-Force 3.3", also only say "Armour". Even the grips, a half cord design, say only "Armour 845" on the very end. "Tommy Armour" is nowhere on the clubs. Ah, found a pic, a different 845 series than mine, but same motif: http://app.infopia.com/img/image/fp/VPID/1870051/size/190 MM

It looks almost exactly like the picture in the link, but it says Tommy Armour on the sole. I would be highly suspicious of any irons that just say Armour, but I certainly cannot prove that they are knock-offs. dave

Perhaps they changed it with the sets when they went "oversize" (which they really aren't. Mine are the same size as the "oversize", just have titanium face inserts...here's a pic of one of those: http://www.overstock.com/?page=proframe&prod_id=2254611 Bought my set at Sam's. Not knockoffs. They had just discontinued the model. Buddy bought a set at same time, one of his broke shaft at hosel, he sent into Tommy Armour golf, they fixed it for free. Each iron has matching serial # for set, btw. MM
