Subject: Eleven days of playing the Robert Trent Jones Trail
Just returned from an exhausting tour of the RTJ's golf trail in Alabama.
Four of us old farts (all retired from the US Military) started in
Huntsville (2 rounds). Drive to Gadsden/Anniston and played 27 holes.
Over to Birmingham where my credit card starting crying. Two rounds at
Oxmoor and then 4 miles to Ross Bridge (100 dollars +). Down I-65 to
Montgomery where the Senator, Judge, and Legislator tore us new openings.
That is the course the Nationwide plays. Down I-65 to Greenville and 27
holes. Down 65 to Mobile and 36 holes. (LPGA played there for several
years) Evening on the beach at Pensacola Naval Air Station watching the
other three drink like fish. Drove over to Dothan and played 36. Up US
431 to Grand National near Opelika/Columbus, GA. Only course we did not
get to was the new one in Florence. Just did not see any reason to drive
150 miles up to the Northwest corner. (Too close to Mississippi and
Tennessee for my comfort)

After 1125 miles with three loveable drunken soldiers, I just want to throw
my clubs in the river and sleep for a week.

Average cost was 35 dollars per round not counting Ross Bridges.

The golf was ok at the beginning but as the cute cart girls found us and
starting the beer, each day became more and more hilarious.

Everyone needs to make a trip and play these bright spots in the blight
known as Alabama. Just tell the wife and kids they are going to the Beach
in Florida, just don't tell them it is 9 days to make it through Alabama.

Nice. This something that I want to do. That's pretty good to get an
average of $35, especially with that Ross Bridge course being $100.
That is unbelievable

Sounds like you had an absolute blast.

A very cool way to spend eleven days, I'd say.

Nice going! That's one hell of a trip. My son and I have played 6 of
the courses,
hope to get back there. How was the weather? Ross Bridge is not part
of the RTJ
trail, is it?

Yes Ross Bridge and the one in Florence are part of the RTJ.

Any of these guys outrank you? I like your wife/kid diversion. Good
strategery.

Seriously....when we played together at the Rhoid, you were fairly new
with a ton of upside. How much improvement since then? Ready to give
ol Bret a run for his money?? Ready to figure out just what the heck
Laville was talking about in that hotel room???

Define Rank (I think they all outranked me until I explained about soap and
water), hmmm, one bird Col. (Special Forces Commander at Bragg, Medal of
Honor winner), One SGM (crusty old fart), and the only non army that we
allowed was a ine major.

Bret is out of my league. I shoot anywhere from 73 to 88 depending on the
knowledge of course and greens. Bermuda I like, Bent not so much. Last
year or so, we played in Rome, GA and I was within one or two shots of the
Clanger man. Last time he beat me pretty bad up at the granite course in
Trenton, GA.

The trip has not cycled on my Hdcp. It was 10.1 Home

Played with Laville last month. The youngster has given on me
comprehending any of that good stuff. I am a feel player. Pick a club, a
line and hit it. Just hope I don't hit and hurt someone.
