He was clearly the best choice to head the Normandy campaign, despite never having experienced any worthwhile action himself.

My favorite Ike quote was from Sam Snead, who told him about his golf swing, "You need to put more ASS into it, Mr President!"

The fact that he had good men working for him, and few enough crises sufficiently to allow him time to play golf should not be an indictment on his competency. Things were good - maybe he was doing something right.
