An old friend of mine who does not use the internet has asked me to see if I
can find anything about the writer: Dan Jenkins ... he reckons he was a
great writer and knew Hogan well ... and wrote about him ... my friend - and
I - are particularly interested in anything he wrote about Hogan ... but
also anything else about golf - articles / books etc.

I am just putting this up before I Google it to see if anybody has any
resources that may be of interest ... Thanks in advance.

Jenkins has had a column in Golf Digest for decades.

Hogan met Jenkins when Jenkins was something of a standout college
player at some school in Texas. I can't remember which school though.

Jenkins wanted to turn pro but, figuring he didn't have the chops, went
into sportswriting. He wrote for the Fort Worth daily starting
sometime in the late 40's early 50's (?).

They weren't great friends but Curt Samson (in his book "Hogan")
described Jenkins as Ben Hogan's favorite sportswriter.

Jenkins ususally manages to find a way to mention Hogan, Snead, and
or Lord Byron in pretty much every column he writes. I don't think
he'll be happy again until one of those guys wins another tournament...

Jenkins attended TCU.

Jenkins graduated TCU in '53. He then started on the sports desk
of the Fort Worth Press, working for Blackie Sherrod and alongside
Bud Shrake.

Hogan and Jenkins were friendly enough, though Jenkins had a
better relationship with Hogan's brother Royal. (So did almost
everybody else.)

Or until TCU wins another national championship in football.

Both equally unlikely events? ;)
