I like to support my home golf course - but I am a believer that a
cheaper club - fit by people who have the correct equipment and
training to my game - is better than a more expensive club purchased
by people not so trained.

Where do you buy your clubs?

Ping i3 O-size through a local private course from the Head Golf Pro.
Had a lesson/fitting that was about 90 minutes long for $50 (which went
towards the purchase of clubs). I went there because it was the only
Ping authorized fitting location(out of many) that did the fitting on
grass instead of inside or on mats. Also there was no pressure to push
me into O-size or Blade since I stuck the ball equally well with both
and different Ping shafts and variations were tried. I ended up with
O-size because I was looking for a game improving club, already having
a set of cavity backs and being a high handicapper. The price that I
paid for the clubs was very reasonable (under $600 for the set) and
well worth it.

Wedges: Clevelands (52 BeNi,56 Chrome,60 BeNi) through mail order
Woods: 5w McHenry metal on clearance from Dicks (re-shafted), 3w
McHenry Metal from 2nd Hand Swing(re-shafted)
Driver: TM 420R from Sams Club ($50) reshafted
Putter: Never Compromise Theta bought used at a local golf store

Bottom line is that I am very happy with all my clubs and will not buy
any more, unless I find a nice Cameron putter under $100 or need to
replace my chrome SW.

A professional clubfitter made me a new set of clubs this year. I
recommend them highly - Flagstick Custom Golf, Midlothian, VA.

They made these --

Carlton Heritage woods, 1, 3 and 5

Power Play Select 5000 Hybrid irons, 1, 2, 3 and 4

KZG PC-III irons 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, PW, AW, SW, LW

Golfsmith or some other large golf store, usually. I've bought a
couple
clubs off ebay and were happy with them, I bought a few clubs
from a course pro shop which were on sale once. Usually I can get
better
deals elsewhere, though.

At my club -- the pro does the fittings, backs his goods, gives me fair
prices, arranges golf road trips to which I am always invited & is a nice
guy with a large family to support.

Ditto for me. My pro gives me free lessons and discounts on all the
clubs I get from him so I definitely support him.

I haven't received any free lessons --- but we talk golf swing theory all
the time....

I'm more of the do it yourself type with my swing --- he thinks it odd that
I refuse to video my swing -- but I believe if I did I would fall back into
my too many swing thoughts trap when I was way too mechanical and a 12 - 15
handicapper --- where now my card says 8.6 but I've been under 80 for most
of the last 2 months when no scores are being reported.

Sometimes too much info is bad for me.
