Played in my league last night, par 35. I hacked it around for a 39 with just 1 birdie. But my partner lit it up with the best 9 holes I've ever seen anyone play Birdie-Par-Par-Eagle-Par-Par-Birdie-Birdie-Par For a total of *30*. The eagle was a monster 60 footer, but the birds were all within 10 feet. He missed 3 greens, but nothing more than just off the fringe.

Best round (and lowest score) I ever witnessed in-person by a non-professional was Annika1980's 5-under-par 67 the first time he laid eyes on my home course, Trophy Club of Atlanta. Second best I ever witnessed was Ken Pitts' 1-under-par 71 on the same course the first time he played it. But the most impressive round I've witnessed in the last 3 years or so happened last Sunday when I played North Fulton GC in Atlanta for the first time in years. I got paired with two other guys, and then at the last minute, another fellow joined up with us and rode with me. I forget his name, but I'll never forget his game. This was a 70-year-old guy. On the first tee, he bombed one down the middle of the fairway, fully 30-yards past mine (and I hit a good one there). It was no fluke; he bombed his drives long and straight pretty much all day. I can only remember him missing one fairway. But more impressive was his iron play. I don't know how many greens he missed in regulation, but I'm sure you could count 'em all on one hand. Maybe one finger. He was like a machine. North Fulton is no pushover. There are a couple of very long par fours, in the 440-range, and several of the par fours play to an uphill landing area, so you get no roll. The course plays every inch of its length, which is around 6500 from the whites (where we were playing). And as hilly as that place is on most holes, a flat lie is rare. But this guy had all the shots from every lie the course could throw at him. This 70-year-old guy fired a 3-over-par 38 on the front nine, and seemed fairly displeased. Said he was falling apart at the end. "Yeah, right," I thought. On the back, he fired an even more impressive 2-UNDER-par 34, for a total score of 1-over-par 72. Not bad for a 70-year-old guy. He damn near shot his age, right before my eyes. Turns out he is a 3-time winner of the Atlanta Senior City Championship. No wonder. Needless to say, there was no keeping up with him. But it was sure fun to watch him play. Randy

Yesterday he was off his short game pretty bad & we were playing a course that none of us had ever seen before. We both struggled with green speed reading and all of us struggled with figuring out where to hit the ball for the best score. I shot an 85 with 4 3 putts in the first 7 holes. I think his final card was a 92.

I didn't see it, but one of the kids on our college golf team fired a 10 under 62 Tuesday. I've seen a card of his coach (our pro) of a 60 (30-30) in his office. The pro holds or has held a few course records around here.

Best round I ever witnessed in person was Tiger Woods shooting 63 at the Bellsouth Classic. I also saw Greg Norman shot 64 at The Masters which included a front-9 score of 30. Best I ever saw while I was playing was my own 63 .... 9 pars and 9 birdies. I'd rank that one slightly behind Tiger's in terms of difficulty, however.
