I bought myself a new bag and my son some new clubs, and my wife got me
a gift certificate to the local golf-centric sporting goods store.

What was the best golf-related present you GAVE or RECEIVED?

Belated Happy Birthdsay to you Ken!

I got balls and a golf shirt. I got a Dalek as well. It's got a hook
instead of a plunger. I know they were supposed to have the hooks in
the original design, but a Dalek without a plunger...I dunno. Anyhoo, I
told it that some humans were referring to themselves with names very
similar to DALEK and it got all mad and said it was "going to take care
of this", whatever that means, and I haven't seen the thing since. I
haven't been into Dr. Who since I was an adolescent, the Tom Baker
days, so I don't really remember too much about Daleks, but I sure
didn't know they could fly!

I especially like the striped version.

Golf is too personal for gifts. Your average relative has as much chance of
hitting the sweet spot with a golf gift as I do when I make an ill-conceived
visit to the shopping mall for a home decor gift for my wife.

Of course, the problem can be overcome by brute force: 'full set of pings
custom-fit by old man Karsten himself'; 'all expenses paid trip to Carmel,
with tee times at this and that course". etc. I could also hand my wife a
$5000 gift certificate for haverty's furniture. If, on the other hand, I
only have $100 dollars to spend, I'm better off steering clear of home
furnishings, clothing, and makeup.

Ditto with golf. My wife could spend a lot of time researching golf balls,
and based on the advice she receives decide that any golfer would love a
couple dozen Pro V1's under the tree. She wanted to get more than that, but
who knew the things cost that much?

Personally, I don't care for them so much. I'll gladly play the ones I
find, but there's no such thing as the ones I've bought. They just aren't
$4 golf balls. They don't know how to avoid water hazards any better than
Pinnacles do, and the only time I've checked a chip shot was when I wanted
it to run. $90 worth of them in my bag would make me feel like an asshole
gringo (no offense to the purists out there). How could she know that? On
the other hand, she probably thinks the perfume I bought her is gauche.

It's a very weird thing--sleeves. No shirt nor vest attached. They're
like compression sleeves, and designed for those cool mornings where a
short-sleeved shirt isn't quite warm enough. So you just pull on these
sleeves and voila! Warm arms!

Did you have any knitted leggings to go with them? For those days when
it starts out just a bit to chilly to go with shorts.

I got myself a pair of trousers at Dicks that have removable leggings.
Starting to zip the legs on is a bit hard, but unzipping them into
shorts works just nice.

My wife gave me enough money to cover all my bets for the next month.
Pretty cool. Chances are I'll win some next month so I can probably stretch
it out to cover a couple of months.

the best golf present I have received was this year my uncle gave me
two plane tickets to anywhere i wanted to go. How does this relate to
golf you may ask... well it is because where i go i can play at any of
the golf courses and everything is paid for, and i can stay for three
weeks. I love my uncle LOL, he is so cool.

My son when he was 16 qualified for and played in the First Tee Open
at Pebble Beach. I paid for airfare, a hotel room, and meals for
my father, who had played golf his entire life
(and was one of those great amateur golfers you've never heard of),
had never been to Pebble Beach, never seen the Pacific Ocean, never
seen a professional golf tournament. He also got to attend many of the
meetings with my son and the senior pros and got to meet the players
of his generation face to face and watch them play. I almost had to
break his arm to make him go as he was one of those guys that never
wants to accept anything.

He died the following year -- but he got to see Pebble Beach, and his grandson
play in a PGA tournament.

I gave my husband a 5 day Nike Golf Camp in Kapalua, Hawaii. I went
with him. We ended up the only 2 signed up for that session AND had the
head teaching pro at Kapalua as our private teacher! At each Nike Golf
camp, they also did a drawing for a Calloway GBB driver (yes, it was a
few years ago) and one for a pair of FootJoy golf shoes. So, since we
were the only 2, we got both. Money well spent!

Hmmm....I'm thinking of doing the same for my 14 year old, who has the
potential of being much better than his old man.

Did his game improve? How old was he? How did you choose the right
one?

Thanks!

Best I've ever given was a summer golf camp for my son.
Best I've received, new Callaway X-12s.
