I don't care if Vijay wins 9 times and 3 majors this year, it will be
lame-O.

I don't know why people get upset. I think the worst thing the USGA
ever
did was to ban croquet syle putting.

And, it's a good thing Gene Sarazan had the good sense to hide his sand
wedge before winning the Open with it, or we wouldn't have those,
either.

But there was big money in metal woods, so they stuck around.

Call me crazy but I think anchoring or supporting any club by any part of
your body other than the hands should be illegal

Would you allow exceptions for the disabled?

"Illegal" ???

by what standard?

International Treaty? Federal law? State law? Municipal ordinance? PGA
permission? USGA permission?

Aha! says the monkey: context!

"Recreational golfers" make their own rules/laws. In USGA sanctioned
events, rules of the USGA apply but are adjusted according to playing
conditions.

I do not think the disabled are concerned about "the law." Nor the
recreational golfer who moves his ball for a better line, hits mulligans,
drops a ball rather than going back, and gives himself and his buddies 2 and
3 foot putts. Kinda silly.

The purists play their game, but don't dictate to grandma what hers has to
be.

As for self-reporting, it would make sense to use USGA rules in calculating
your score. In which case the average OF THOSE HALFWAY SERIOUSLY TRYING FOR
SCORE would be WELL over 100. More like 120 on 6400/5000 yard layouts.

Palmer endorsed "illegal drivers" for "the faithful."

I agree: in USGA/PGA events a belly putter ought to be illegal, yup yup. To
lose that "original concept" of golph that used hand, stick, head, and ball
is too much of a change.

Does the USGA have a copyright for the use of the word "GOLF" to define what
happens on a golf course - i.e., you will be kicked off the premises if you
break the rules?

agree, it's like aluminum bats in baseball, or wearing a full face
shield in hockey... lame.

Vijay played well enough to win with a f&*%$# broom in his hand. Give the
guy a break and move along. He did not do anything illegal as far as the ROG
goes. Lots of golfers on the PGA tour use belley putters.

I don't know. That's an "old man"'s putter, and at least Vijay qualifies
(unlike some of those nationwide and big tour first timers I've seen putting
with the crutch.)

One thing that does impress me about Vijay is he's won tournaments with just
about every style of putter imaginable. Sometimes he used more than one
type in one tournament. You can knock him for a lot of things, but the guy
has talent and dedication and a track record of being a contender almost
every time he tees it up.
