Subject: Abizaid wants more troops .... big surprise!
WASHINGTON, Nov. 15 - The top American military commander in the
Middle East warned today against setting a timetable for withdrawing
United States troops from Iraq and raised the possibility that more
might be needed, if only temporarily, to help that country's security
forces and prevent the nation from tearing itself apart.

"We have every option on the table, and we will present them to the
chain of command," Gen. John Abizaid, the head of the United States
Central Command, told the Senate Armed Services Committee. But, in
reks that went against recommendations by some Democrats, he opposed
setting any schedules for pulling troops out in the next several
months.

The general emphasized that any increases would be temporary and for
the purpose of hastening the transition to Iraqi control of internal
security, and at several moments in his testimony, he said the emphasis
should be on increasing the number of Iraqi troops, and sharpening
their effectiveness.

=====================================

Gee, I'll bet nobody saw that coming! Except me of course.
This is what I wrote on 10/15/06:

"Here is what will likely happen. After the elections Bush will send a

shitload of troops over to Iraq. He'll make some bullshit speech about

how new developments now demand that we have more boots on the ground.
He might even say that his Generals requested more troops. He'll
forget that they wanted them 4 years ago but Rummy knew better.

If this happens all of America should ask why the troops weren't sent
earlier and how many Americans died over there because Bush waited
until it was politically expedient to send what was needed."

If you heard or read Abizaid's testimony before Congress it was obvious
how uncomfortable he was, especially when getting grilled by John
McCain. Abizaid was all over the place ... first he wanted 20,000 new
troops, but only for a short time. Then he admitted that 20,000 new
troops wouldn't make much of a dent. He didn't want to withdraw and he
didn't want to ask for lots more troops. And he didn't believe in the
status quo.
So what the Hell did he say, anyway?

Why do we need wishy-washy Generals when we have The Decider?

I don't even know why we would question the
administration/military/pentagon axis, the Mission has been Accomplished
for years.

Vocab lesson for the day:
Repubs-benchks Dems-timelines
Repubs-withdraw Dems-redeploy

What's the revelation that Abizaid wants doesn't want to withdraw/redeploy
He's a sitting general. Do you really expect him to say, "let's pull
out/redeploy? Of course not..he's an active general! Stormin'Norman
didn't think the strategy to get within 50 miles of baghdad and not go
further to finish off saddam was any good either but couldn't say so
until he retired and wrote his book. In fact, his first day saw him
saying that we really don't need more troops but we are not going to pull
any out either. That means, "let's stay the course and see what happens,"
which is totally opposite than the message the repubs should have heard
loud and clear last week. Two weeks before the election, bush even
mentioned looking into benchks for pulling out troops. That settled
out and was not heard from again.

If cutting out tax incentives and giveaways for the big oil companies
is called "raising taxes" then they should raise taxes immediately. If
removing the tax cuts for millionaires is "raising taxes" then so be it.

I predicted the Democrats would want to remove troops. I was right too.

Wow. Did you predict that all by yourself or did you need help? Since
you'd be in favor of staying, will you be signing up to go over and how
many of your family and friends will you be taking with you. I'm sure
that's your plan right?

Could a man of your insight into the future be able to predict what day
it will be tomorrow?

Wow, really?

You predicted it? Was that prediction before or after they said that?

It was before. I also predicted they would raise taxes. Of course they
might say they didn't raise taxes if they fail to extend the President's tax
cuts. But, that would also mean the tax cuts never existed.

Spin, spin, spin

There are Republicans who want to remove troops too. The deficit
budget is a *huge* tax.

Yeah, maybe this time he can win in his home state. BTW have you seen
him lately. The boy is as big as a locomotive.

Or are you asking who will win? The generally accepted prospective choices
are all mediocre to bad, so probably not the American people.
