Took the day off on this blustery autumn day to play 36 at my home course (72.3/135). Deer on every hole, nobody around, it was great. I was without a driver today, however, as the 905T went back to Titleist to get a new head (broken face), so I only had my beloved 4-wood Warbird to tee off with. Oldest thing in my bag, except for that package of cheese crackers at the bottom ;-) In 36 holes, I was 25 of 28 in Fairways hit, and shot 75-77 with horrible putting, even though I had only 28 in the first round and 32 in the 2nd. 3 3-putts in the 36 holes, and I didn't putt any in for bird, even though I hit > 50% greens. I did chip 2 in, however!

I did chip 2 in, however! It's true. Left my driver in the car last Monday and used 5w or 7w off the tee. Played each hole for bogey like on a par5 allowing 4 shots to reach the green making sure I stayed in the fairway, and hoping that I could get away with just one putt, and if I couldn't, that bogey was ok. My friends initially scoffed at this tactic but had to eat their words when I came in with the best score on the front and secondbest on the back.

Tomorrow is our Men's Club fire drill tournament, with "funny" requirements at each hole: http://www.broadlandsmensclub.com/bmc_firedrill.pdf What will be interesting are the holes where we are forced to use mid-irons - to see what the average scores are compared to normal.

They're not 'funny', they're weird 8^) Sounds like you guys are tired of golf. I did chip 2 in, however! Congrats, that sounds like a fine round. That said, I think the reason we all love the driver is what it CAN give us, not what it does. For example, I love my 3 iron, hit it consistently down the middle, usually past whomever I'm playing with. -- Plus, I score very well when hitting 2nd shots from the fairway. However, the days I try my driver/3w are the days I want to reach par 5's, or play from the longer tees. Unfortunately, it very very very seldom works out the way I'd like it to.
