Played for the 3rd time this summer. Started out ok..... even par after 5. Then had a buzzard (8) on 6 and bogey on 8 and 9 for a 42 on the front nine. Bogey on 10 and double bogey on 11 to go 9 over after 11 (ain't looking good). Then I had a revelation and told Mrs Ringer I was not going to think score and just try to make a "textbook" swing the rest of the round. I hit the ball almost perfect the remaining 7 holes while thinking "textbook" swing. I finished par, par, par, par, par, par, birdie for a score of 1 under on the last 7 holes. Hit everything right down the middle and at the flag. (finished with an 80) I'm gonna play tomorrow and keep the "textbook" swing thought for the entire round. Da Ringer

God, it must suck to live in Alabama this time of year. Or any other time, come to think of it. You'd better watch out. This afternoon I went by to visit the Oldest Member in his office (the end of the driving range) to tell him a joke. While he extolled the skills of The Slammer, Sam Snead (who he ranks 2nd behind only Tiger on his GOAT list), I hit about 3 balls with his 6 iron. I could only take half swings since I was so stiff (and fat), but all three of them were well struck with a slight draw. "Like riding a fuckin bike, " I told him. "I still got it." I've got a bad case of shingles goin on in my shoulder right now, but once that stops hurting, I may actually hit a whole bucket. Then I'll be ready to wax that old ass for ya. Here's the joke I shared with The Oldest Member: ======================================= An 80-year-old man went to his doctor for his annual check-up. The doctor asked him how he was feeling. The 80-year-old said, "I've never felt better. I now have a 20 year-old bride who is pregnant with my child. What do you think about that?" The doctor considered his question for a minute and then began. "I have an older friend, much like you, who is an avid trophy hunter and never misses a season. One day, when he was going out hunting, he was in a bit of a hurry and accidentally picked up his walking cane instead of his gun. When he got to the creek, he saw a prime beaver sitting beside the stream of water. He raised his cane and went 'bang, bang'. Suddenly, two shots rang out and the beaver fell over dead. What do you think of that?" The 80-year-old said, "I'd say somebody else pumped a couple of rounds into that beaver." The doctor replied, "My point exactly."

I'm still laughing -- bill-o A "gimme" can best be defined as an agreement between two golfers neither of whom can putt very well.

Flatter than a pancake at the moment. Got a little too flat at Hampton Cove. At least one perfect swing (or me) on that par that I birdied!

I tend to get quick, and it goes downhill from there. I also do not putt anywhere near as well as you, but the idea of finding a spot on the green just in front of the ball and rolling it over that spot helps me when I do it.

Result? 5 pars & a birdie -- I then made the turn & turned in 9 straight pars in the rain. What a great game it is on some nights....

Smooth and fluid. I always thought you should score better than you do, and have never quite understood why you don't. With your tempo and smooth swing, you should be nobody's bee-atch. Randy

I agree. Rob has a fine swing and a decent short game.
